Orphaned at 10-yearsold, Teagan "Tea" Harper is sent to live with
her Grammy and Grampa's best friend Mrs. Marks in the impressive
but gothic estate, Raven's Peak on the cliffs of Maine. Completely
lost and alone, Teagan is taken under the wings of Mrs. Marks's
adopted son, Kane Doyle, with the crystal blue eyes, just two years
older than herself who has been abandoned by his own mother.
The two are instant best friends and later proclaim to be soul mates
never to be separated.
No two could be closer than Tea and Kane as they skip through the
years with their clever pranks. Tea chooses to follow her parents
footsteps by attending Boston University, but is reluctant at leaving
Kane. Having indulged in sex and driven by their love for each other,
pledges are made to always belong to each other. As her studies
become problematic and she spends less time talking with Kane,
his silence in turn becomes stifling. Returning home she finds Kane
gone and eventually told he has married another. Teagan suffers
the unbelievable loss of her soul mate but is determined to move on
with the help of her gay friend, Simon. Letting go of her dreams
with Kane is impossible without an explanation why he cut her
loose so suddenly and painfully. Eleven years later, the devastating
truth behind the betrayal comes to light only to open more secrets
than either of them would have imagined. Teagan struggles over
letting the past and her dreams go to starting over without her soul
mate for a new life. Will fighting for their dream still be feasible?
The entire read is surrounded with devastating emotion and
nostalgia. This story is very close to my heart as I have a nephew
who was burned and fought for his life just as in this story. L. A.
Fiore has an incredible knowledge of the pain and emotions it takes
to overcome the tragedy she has written about. I will carry this
story in my heart for a long time to come as I was so emotionally
enraptured throughout the read. This is the first I have had the
pleasure to preview by this author, but I can promise it will not be
my last! I am totally impressed with the insight of this talented
"artist".
Teagan Harper is barely ten years old when she finds herself orphaned and sent away to
live at Raven’s Peak, a Gothic estate on the seaside cliffs of Maine. Soon, though, her
heartache and loneliness are tempered by a blossoming friendship with the only other
child living at Raven’s Peak: Kane Doyle, only two years older than Teagan and
abandoned by his mother. Over the years, the pair grows inseparable. First they’re
pranksters and confidants, but eventually their feelings change, and best friends turn
into soul mates. On the cusp of Teagan’s departure for a university in Boston, they share
a glimpse into their happily-ever-after and make promises of forever.
But Teagan and Kane’s engagement and dreams of the future are shattered when Teagan
returns home to find Kane gone from Raven’s Peak—and living with someone new.
Devastated and heartbroken, Teagan cuts ties with her beloved adoptive home and tries
to move on with her life. But years later, when the shocking truth behind Kane’s betrayal
comes to light, Teagan must decide whether to embrace her new life and let go of her
past once and for all, or fight for her dream life with the only man she’s ever wanted.
