Jodi Carlyle's man left her at the altar a year ago. Now
thirty years old, the
humiliation and fear has lingered so much so that Jodi is
seeking
professional help. Her therapist thinks exposure therapy
is the best plan of
action, so she suggests that Jodi crash a wedding to
overcome her
debilitating fear.
All this sounds very fun and charming, however while I
liked the exchange
Jodi and Jake have when they first meet, it is a big jump
from how the author
portrays her in the beginning. If Jodi is so traumatized
that she needs to
seek a therapist to overcome this fear, why is she so
easy going and flirty at
the wedding? A place where she is surrounded by things
that should've
made her one big mess?
Jake has this idea in his head that Jodi is some free-
spirited, rebellious
woman when in fact she is not. He doesn't know anything
about her. Not
even her real name, in fact! When they jump into bed
together, I felt one
step behind the romance because it wasn't as believable
as I thought it
would be. While I enjoyed their easy banter, I couldn't
figure out if Jodi was
still insecure or the same confident woman Jake believes
her to be. They
almost seemed like totally different characters.
While Jodi believes she'll never see Jake after their one
night stand, she's
definitely in for a surprise. When Jodi's sister plans
to marry and the best man is
no other than Jake Coronado. While the beginning is a
little wishy-washy in terms of
how the heroine is presented, I still enjoy their romance
in the end. RULES OF THE
GAME by Lori Wilde is a light, fun romp of a book and is
a good pick for a summer
read.
