In the third book about Eddie and his owner, Minnie
Hamilton, Ms. Cass introduces us to a particularly cold
blooded killer.
Denise Slade is involved in every aspect of life in
Chilson, Michigan. In the normal way of things, she has
managed to anger just about everyone in town. Now, she
is volunteering on the bookmobile. Minnie badly needs
the help but one day of Denise has taken all the patience
she can muster.
When Denise backs out of the next run and volunteer's her
husband's services instead, Minnie is relieved. Roger is
a nice man who appreciates Eddie and is ready to do
whatever he is asked. When Roger doesn't come back to
the van after a short break, Minnie goes looking for him
and finds him dead.
No one can understand why anyone would want to kill
Roger. After promising to stay out of it, Minnie is drawn
into the investigatioin when she figures out that killer
was actually out to get Denise.
In the meantime, Minnie is trying to work out a way to
get some money to keep the bookmobile going. With her
boss, Stephen, always on her about costs, Minnie is
searching for every opportunity to get the money needed.
Ms. Cass has written a well-crafted story with BORROWED
CRIME. Her characters are always interesting. Minnie's
interactions with Eddie are amusing. The secondary
characters will keep the reader laughing as Minnie tries
to hide Eddie's rider along with the bookmobile a secret.
The identity of the killer is well-hidden until the end
of the story.
