INSTINCT is book six of the Chronicle of Nick
series, which
picks up where the last one left off. Nick and his ever
growing circle of friends continue to fight off the demons
that want to destroy Nick and control his Malachi powers.
Nick has all of his Malachi powers but can not control
them.
Anytime he taps into that power, he loses a little piece
of
himself to the darkness.
Nick wakes up in a fabulous mood, he should have saw that
as
a sign. His day was going great until Caleb gets sick,
and
demons don't get sick, ever. What is worse, Caleb has no
powers. And then the weather occurrences start. Raining
blood, giant bugs, and the high school's shapeshifter's
can't seem to hold on to their human forms. Oh and don't
forget the creepy entities floating around everyone.
A powerful demon has taken a swipe at Nick's mother in
order
to control his Malachi side. But no one know who or what
it
is.
When Menyara shows up to check on Nick and his mother, she
isn't pleased to learn that Nick's powers have been
unlocked. She is also not pleased Xev has been released.
It seems that Menyara isn't really who she has been
claiming
to be. Turns out that the Gods had used Nick's mother to
weaken Adarian by creating the perfect woman for him.
There
is a reason that despite the hardships Cherise has had to
endure to raise Nick, she has always been a pure person.
A majority of Nick's Generals, which he inherited from the
previous Malachi have declared that he is unfit to lead
them
and demand that Chronus and Tiamat judge him. He is to
pick
two of his generals, one to stay behind and guard his
mother, the other to accompany him into the nether realm.
Even though he has not known either very long, Nick
chooses
Xev to guard his mother and chooses Livia to accompany him
to the nether realm Nemed. He is to pick the largest
berries from the tree in Agonia.
Once in the nether realm, Livia immediately proves to be
worthless as she outs him as the Malachi and the forest
attacks him. Nick is losing and Livia refused to help,
when
Aeron shows up to help. Nick allows Aeron to use his body
in
order to defeat his attackers as long as he keeps his word
and returns Nick's body back to him, which he does. To
Nick,
Aeron has earned his trust. Aeron offers to lead Nick to
the
tree to collect the berries. Before they go through the
portal, Livia betrays Nick by slicing his throat and
leaving
him for dead.
Before Nick succumbs to his injuries, He releases
Nashira,
the entity in his grimoire. By doing so, Nashira and
Aeron,
save his life. And now two more are added to Nick's
growing
number of friends. For now they are safe, but for how
long...no one knows.
Nick seems to be drawn to those who has been wrongly
accused
in their lives and judged unfairly, just has he has always
been. Nick may be the Malachi, but never have there been
a
Malachi like him. He will do whatever it takes to not
turn
into the monster he has seen in his visions.
I love Sherrilyn Kenyon's writing style through her other
series, but this series, she leaves more questions than
answers. Sherrilyn Kenyon's Series are complex in
imagination but extremely strong in character development
and plot. She is one of my go to authors and her books are
never disappointing. I do recommend reading this series in
order, because there is so much in each that carries into
the next in the series.
Zombies, demons, vampires, shapeshifters—another day in
the
life of Nick Gautier—and those are just his friends. But
now
that he’s accepted the demon that lives inside him, he
must
learn to control it and temper the very emotions that
threaten the lives of everyone he cares for.
Something that’s hard to do while trying to stay off the
menus of those who want his head on a platter. And no one
wants him more than the dark gods who created his race.
Now
that they know where he is, they will stop at nothing to
reclaim him. And without knowing it, Nick has just
embraced
the one person he should never have trusted. The one
person
who will hand him over to his enemies to get back the life
they lost.
Nick has finally accepted his fate, now he must learn to
defy his destiny, and the dark, deadly forces that will
stop
at nothing to destroy everyone he loves so that they can
again return to the world of man and own it.
