At first, Camryn (Cami to her friends) Brooks thought she
had done the right thing but then, she realized she
should not have touched the knife... especially as it was
sticking out of the man's back.
After a bit of a disaster in Washington, Cami had
returned to her hometown of Brooks Landing in Minnesota
and had taken over the running of her parents'
CurioFinds, a shop with a specialization in selling and
making snowglobes. Her bright and cozy shop is linked
with the Brew Ha-Ha, a coffee shop belonging to Pinky
Nelson, Cami's longtime best friend from her childhood.
Now Cami's world is swirling as crazily as the swirl of
snow of the snow globes in her shop when shaken. How
could the police possibly consider her a potential
suspect? What can she do to prove her innocence?
SNOW WAY OUT is the first book in a Snow Globe Shop
Mystery series by debut author Christine Husom. Cosy
mystery fans will definitely relish getting their hands
on SNOW WAY OUT as Cami tries to solve the mystery of
missing snow globe that portrays a scene similar to that
of where a man is murdered.
Suspense builds nicely as Cami has to figure out how to
clear her name, deal with running her business and
getting the police to believe what she says. SNOW WAY
OUT has a very interesting and slightly quirky group of
characters, so lots of material and things to find out
more in the next installment in the series, yet, things
are nicely contained as in a snow globe world so that
SNOW WAY OUT also reads very well on its own.
For myself, I really enjoyed Husom's humour and play on
words. While there is a solid mystery to figure out,
there is lot that will make you laugh or at least have a
good smile. I also like the way Husom brings in the
backstory for Cami as well as for some of the secondary
characters, so they all come quite vividly and
realistically to life. The use of the snow globes and
their history as a key part of the plot is intriguing
and I look forward to seeing how it will be used in the
next story. For those who like crafts, details on how to
make snow globes are also included at the end of the
book.
So, if you like cozy mysteries, do add a swirl of
interest to your life and get your hands on SNOW WAY OUT!
It is definitely a wonderful story to curl up with and
find out what happens in this small town of Brooks
Landing in Minnesota. Enjoy!
SUMMARY
Curio shop manager Camryn Brooks thought she’d seen every
kind of snow globe—until she saw one depicting a crime
scene… Ever since she was a child, Cami has loved the sparkling
beauty of snow globes, and now, she sells them. In fact,
they’re so popular, Cami and her friend—coffee shop owner
Alice “Pinky” Nelson—are hosting a snow globe making
class. After the flurry of activity has ended and everyone has
gone off with their own handmade snow globes, Cami spots a
new globe left behind on a shelf, featuring an odd tableau
—a man sleeping on a park bench. On her way home, she drifts through the town park and is
shaken to come upon the scene from the globe—a man sitting
on a bench. But he isn’t sleeping—he has a knife in his
back. When the police arrive, it’s clear they consider
Cami a little flaky and possibly a suspect. After her
friends also come under suspicion, Cami starts plowing
through clues to find the cold-blooded backstabber—before
someone else gets iced…
