Fiction

Have you ever had a time in your life where nothing goes your way? This is what is happening to Sophie. At the age of fifteen her mother passes away and she has no one. Sophie quits going to school, and ends up on the streets. Sophie meets Gabe; he also lives on the streets. The only difference is Gabe is a criminal, but Sophie doesn't care she would do anything for him.

One night Gabe decides that he is going to rob a store. He takes Sophie with him and makes her take the money from the cash register. Little did they both know a policeman was in the store. They get arrested, Gabe is sent to jail, Sophie to live with a grandmother that she didn't know she had.

Sue Ann Sellon book is very inspirational writer. While both of the main characters Sophie and her grandmother try to deal with secrets of their own, they find that the SECRETS OF THE PORCH are where they can tell each other any thing. Sue Ann Sellon made me take a long hard look at my own life. I don't have a porch, but like other people I do have secrets.

Sellon shows how God can help any one if you want it enough. I am not a practicing Catholic, but I do believe in God, and feel that he will only give a person what he feels that they can handle.

I really enjoyed how both Sophie and Lily come to rely on each other. No matter how tough Sophie thinks that she is, Lily knows what is in her heart. Both characters blossom in SECRETS OF THE PORCH. Sophie goes from not caring about Lily to realizing that she is much better off because of her. Only a good writer can convey this message. Thumbs up, great story line.
