Suspense

Retired FBI agent Brigid Quinn has spent the better part of her long career hunting dangerous and twisted serial killers. Now, though, she is ready to settle down with her husband, Carlo, and enjoy a somewhat normal life as a private investigator. She even has a best friend for the first time in her life. She is cautiously enjoying her new lifestyle when she is asked to open their home to her teenage niece, Gemma Kate.

Trying to be a good aunt can be, well, trying. Gemma Kate is a highly intelligent young woman and somewhat manipulative. Some odd things begin to happen once she takes up residence in Brigid and Carlo's home, and they are not happy things. In fact, they are pretty dangerous events. When it becomes evident that Brigid's own life may be in danger, she must work harder than she ever has to find a would-be killer before it is too late.

Brigid Quinn is one of the most entertaining and unique characters that a book ever produced. For one thing, she is not young, although she is quite small and, apparently, rather attractive. The family that she comes from is full of hot tempers and loud arguments. Carlo, her husband, has brought the only genuine peace that she has enjoyed in her life. Brigid is a pretty tough customer when it comes to getting a job done. I cannot stress how much I loved this woman. I would totally hang out with her!

Carlo is kind, loving and quite patient with his wife and that makes him the dream man of most women. I loved that he did not treat her as a weakling, but as a woman who can take care of herself.

Gemma Kate is a totally different animal altogether. She is very, very smart, which may or may not make her dangerous. She also tends to be rather unemotional. However, she is still a deeply fascinating character. I wanted to see what she would do next!

FEAR THE DARKNESS is a captivating novel that could easily be converted to a movie or even a television series. I, for one, would be an avid fan! In the meantime, give yourself a huge treat by picking up a copy and get lost in Brigid's world. You will never want it to end.

SUMMARY

Retired FBI agent Brigid Quinn knows how difficult it can be to overcome one's past. But she is nothing if not a fighter. Even when the return of a serial killer from her past threatened to derail her new marriage, she managed to hold on to the life she's been trying to build in Tucson with her husband, Carlo. At first, the new challenges in her life seem pretty mundane compared to a serial killer. After her sister-in-law dies, Brigid's nineteen-year-old niece Gemma Kate comes to live with her and Carlo, to establish Arizona residency before starting college. Brigid doesn't exactly love the idea, especially since there's always been something unsettling about Gemma Kate, but family is family. Meanwhile, Brigid agrees to help a local couple by investigating the death of their son—until dangerous things start to happen. As the menace comes closer and closer to home, Brigid starts to wonder if she can trust anyone. After spending her career hunting sexual predators, Brigid has seen her share of evil. Nevertheless, the worst threats are not always easy to spot, even when they are right in front of you—partly because few people manage to be pure evil. But Brigid knows it's what you don't see, what you never expected, that can be the most treacherous...
