Fantasy | Romance

Terri Brisbin has started a new series which returns her to the paranormal romance field.

Brienne is the adopted daughter of the blacksmith of Yester. She has a special power which she keeps hidden. When she is moved to the her father's castle, and taught to harness her power to manipulate fire, she exults in what she can do.

William de Brus is the illegitimate son of the King of Scotland. He seeks his father's help in retaining his lands. In return, the King asks that he seek out someone who is a danger to his rule. Seeking to earn his request, he heads west into Scotland to investigate the nobleman who is causing trouble.

With powers of his own, Will will be tempted by the beauty of Brienne. Even knowing of her powers doesn't suppress the strong attraction between the two. When Will meets up with a small band of people who talk of the old gods.

As Brienne learns to use her powers, her father seeks to separate her from Will, knowing that he might ruin their plans to free the Goddess and take control of the world.

RISING FIRE is the first in a new series based on the stone circles found in Scotland. Ms. Brisbin has moved deeper into the fantasy world. The romance element is strong and Ms. Brisbin has combined the two elements well.

The prologue takes the reader back to times long past and a pantheon of Gods who fight against one of their own. They succeed in sealing her away for generations until the stories are almost forgotten. Moving forward to the 13th century, we meet Brienne and Will. Will and his men will have to accept the possibility of powers beyond their ken.

Ms. Brisbin writes an intriguing story filled with romantic tension. As the reader plunges into the story, she will cheer as Brienne and Will fight against the fate her father plans. Engrossing reading, RISING FIRE is just the first taste of what promises to be a trilogy you won't want to miss.
