The first murder occurs when television actress Anna
Porter
is killed by what is, seemingly, a rather odd and tragic
car
accident. However, the policemen that are called to the
scene thought that things did not seem quite right. That
is
how DI Steele and her partner Samantha came to be called
in
to take a closer look. What they find causes some
questions
as to the van that Anna crashed into. The owner of the van
is easily discovered, yet the driver was nowhere to be
seen.
Later, it came to light that the van's owner is Piers
Trevelyan, a very important man in the world of film and
television. Anna just happened to be his live-in
girlfriend.
Geraldine's superior immediately feels that the case is
solved with Piers killing his girlfriend through a
cleverly
arranged car crash.
When it is found that Anna was not killed by the accident,
but by a stabbing wound to the back of her neck, the
investigation goes full blown. CCTV tapes are scrutinized
carefully but no one is seen exiting the van and leaving
the
scene. There is no shortage of suspects, as it turns out,
but none of them can be proved as the murderer. Things get
even stickier when more murders occur and they all seem to
be committed by an invisible killer.
The murderer is closer than anyone thinks and Geraldine's
life as well as Sam's will be put in jeopardy before the
identity is revealed.
FATAL ACT is another exciting entry in the DI Geraldine
Steele series and is not to be missed by fans. From the
first page, I was hooked. As always, Leigh Russell has
created a pulse pounder that will hold you captive until
the
very last page when she presents the jaw dropping
conclusion. You will see a couple of cameo appearances of
characters that her fans will remember from other books,
including Detective Ian Peterson, her former partner.
There
are also several smaller subplots going on that keep
things
moving right along. Don't expect these to be resolved by
the
end of FATAL ACT but you will be eagerly looking forward
to
the next installment of those stories.
When you are ready to dive headfirst into a riveting
murder
mystery, FATAL ACT is the one to open. You will be brought
right along step by step in the investigation and feel as
if
you have been reunited with old friends. It is wise not
to
begin reading if you have other plans and expect more than
a
chill or two along the way.
After a glamorous young TV soap star dies in a car crash,
all eyes are on Detective Geraldine Steel to discover what
caused the tragic accident. Another driver was involved in
the collision but seems to have miraculously walked away
unscathed and has now vanished.
The deceased had no obvious enemies and nothing to hide,
so
the investigation seems to be stalling. But when another
young actress is found dead, it becomes painfully clear
that
there is a murderer on the loose targeting beautiful,
famous
women. The only problem is that whoever is committing
these
crimes isn't leaving any clues. With public pressure
mounting, Geraldine Steel unwittingly risks her sergeant's
life in their search to track down a serial killer …
