Thriller | Mystery

Detective Cary Stevens is confused and sitting in Room Six. The problem is, where is room six and what happened to him? The last thing he remembers is being shot by the albino teen, who is a member of the Black Blood gang. The room is filled with other people just waiting, but for what? He begins talking with a gorgeous brunette sitting next to him who has labeled him a "Johnny Depp" Look-alike. She is just as confused as he is. Talking reveals that she was hit by the truck belonging to an albino, JD, while saving the life of a child, giving them something in common. Conversation reveals Chloe Sanders is suffering from a fiancé who committed suicide and has lost her will to write her famous children's books while operating her cupcake shop. Neither understands if this is truly the afterlife and are they passing on, or being given a chance to go back and do it again.

Cary wakes up in the hospital trying to remember his dream of the beautiful woman. Chloe also returns with the emergency crew working over her. Things get interesting when they each realize their catastrophes are linked. Chloe can identify the driver of the black pickup, which could end in JD's arrest and ultimately capture a killer. Adamant to protect Chloe from being hunted down by the gang, they spend all their time together while trying to work through their afterlife memories. Chloe can't entertain an involvement again with a man that will leave her and Cary certainly isn't a man to stick with one woman. Or can he? But boy, the sex is hot!

DIVORCED, DESPERATE, AND DEAD is the third book I have had the pleasure of reading from the Divorced and Desperate series. Hot, sexy, funny, and suspenseful, this is one you definitely don't want to miss. While keeping you on the edge of your seat, it also has you laughing with hilarious amusement. This is one of those stories that is pure entertainment and I absolutely loved it. Definitely a book you can't put down! Christie Craig is a terrific, talented author!

SUMMARY

After a disastrous marriage and divorce, Detective Cary Stevens vowed he’d never let another woman into his heart. But when his latest investigation puts him in the way of a bullet, his bachelor days—and one-night stands—may be numbered. On the brink of death, he finds himself in Room Six, a waiting room in the hereafter where in-betweeners’ fates are truly decided. He resigns himself to dying of boredom, if nothing else, in the lineup of senior citizens with their AARP magazines, when in walks the one woman who could make him want a second chance at life . . . and love.

Chloe Sanders learns the hard way that no good deed goes unpunished when she pushes a little girl out of the way of a moving car and wakes up in some type of purgatory. Or maybe it’s heaven, because she couldn’t have asked for a hotter guy with whom to await her final judgment. The sweeping glances of his bedroom eyes and sharp-tongued flirtatiousness tell her Cary’s certainly no angel, but is he real? When she finally wakes up, Chloe’s determined to find out if he’s truly a man of magnificent flesh and blood or just a figment of her imagination. But before she can track him down, will the murderer that first put them both in Room Six come back to finish the job?
