The world discovered a serum that brings out the magic in
everyone, realizing what they had done, the serum was
destroyed. Now powerful magic families marry and have
children to keep the magic strong and maintain power.
Nevada has almost no magic, she can spot a lie but that is
about it. Nevada and her family run a private
investigations firm. Though it's a family firm she is the
only one licensed and works all the cases, the rest of her
family is too young or injured. The firm is Nevada's baby
she has worked her whole life to make it successful.
When her business is threatened she is forced to work for
a
powerful family to find a Prime, a Prime is a very
powerful
mage. The Prime she is suppose to find controls fire and
is
running from the police, when he is not burning down
buildings. Knowing the chances of surviving are low,
Nevada
refuses the case. The only problem is the family who owns
the loan on her business is the one requesting she take
the
case so she is left with no choice. It doesn't take her
long to discover that one of the most powerful Primes in
the world Mad Rogan is also searching for him. This
immediately decreases her life expectancy to almost none.
Taking the smart route Nevada works with Mad Rogan to find
the missing Prime. As the case becomes more dangerous
things begin to heat up between them making things
dangerous in more than one way.
I really enjoyed the idea of the magic serum and the
effect
it had on the world. The way very powerful people try to
keep the magic and breed it stronger, without regard for
those less powerful than them. Nevada is a smart hard
working girl who refuses to let rich, sexy and powerful
sway her from her purpose or course. Mad Rogan is powerful
and doesn't hesitate to do what he must to find his query.
Mad Rogan has known power and death all his life and it's
fun to read how he doesn't understand Nevada's moral
dilemmas. Some concepts are just strange to him. He seems
like a decent guy, just different.
