Fresh Fiction Review

Junior
Ray Donley

Suspense | Thriller

JUNIOR written by Ray Donley is a different kind of book like none I have read before. It is written like a journal of a convict on the run. I found it very comical at times knowing that no one on the run is going to be taking risks that he did in the book. However, at first it did have me confused. Is this fiction or a true story told in the daily life of Joshua Jennings Jr.? Of course, this is fiction.

Joshua, also known as Junior, and his friend Pete are on the run for blowing up the President, Vice President, and his father. He hears about it over a radio station as they are running an errand for his father. This book is his journal of their day-by-day experience while on the run. While claiming his innocence, they meet interesting people and some who feel that there is no way he could be responsible for all of this.

Then Junior's father sends a message through Pete's email account stating that if Junior is hearing this message then he knows that his father is dead. His father planned this and now it leaves Junior and Pete confused at what his father's plan is. While on the run, the boys travel throughout the country meeting many who show and give their support. Some are even helping them out by supplying them with things that they will need on the way.

JUNIOR is a very different type of book. It makes you wonder about the mind of a person who is really on the run from the FBI. However, do not take it realistically, it is fiction. Ray Donley wrote JUNIOR very well, so much so that I had to keep telling myself that. If you are looking for a book that has humor in it from the beginning to the end then this book fits the bill. I would say JUNIOR is a very interesting and easy read.

SUMMARY

Thirty-year-old Joshua Jennings Jr. is the last living member of his family and the primary suspect in a terrorist bombing that killed the president, the vice president, and his own father. To make matters worse, Joshua discovers that his father planned the explosion and set up Joshua to take the blame. Overnight, the media transforms Joshua into a celebrity criminal. He rockets to first place in the Criminal Fantasy League standings. Feature films and bestsellers explore his motives for blowing up the president. A television personality proclaims Joshua's innocence so she can market "Let Him Be" T-shirts. the Baptist News Channel announces that Joshua is the Antichrist, and that the end of the world is near. Junior is Joshua's journal. It chronicles his three years as a fugitive on the run from law enforcement and vigilantes while he tries to figure out how he fits into his father's plan. When Joshua mysteriously disappears, the journal is discovered and becomes a worldwide bestseller, described by scholars and literary critics as "a classic study of the human condition."
