Dialog is Carolyn Brown's strong suit -- as gifted an author
as you can imagine with the gift of gab -- you can imagine
her eyes smiling with the merriment and mirth she brings to
each page. HOW TO MARRY A COWBOY is a bit of a departure for
Brown whose central theme is invariably the angst between a
man and a woman sprinkled with just the right amount of
fairy dust. Sort of strange bedfellows dressed in Stetsons,
boots and jeans. Don't get me wrong there's plenty of that
in HOW TO MARRY A COWBOY but the scene stealers are
definitely a set of nine year of twins.
Annie Rose's inauspicious arrival at Mason Harper's doorstep
was sure to raise several eyebrows seeing as she was wearing
a rather wrecked wedding gown. But even a bad hit on the
head couldn't have produced the scene before her -- two
excited little girls Gabby and Lily welcoming Annie Rose as
their daddy's new wife -- thereby their new mama.
Annie Rose's training as a nurse equipped her to handle most
emergencies and of course gave her a gift for caring and
empathy. Life so far had also taught her fear and mistrust.
She was on the run from her biggest mistake.
Right away you begin to wonder about this Annie Rose. Why
does she have an emergency bag filled with essential
clothing, IDs, cash, passports and disposable phones? Mason
Harper was no one's fool and immediately questions Annie's
story inclined to trust a stranger with his two young
daughters. But Annie Rose is forthright and puts all her
cards on the table hoping that for at least a short time she
can stop running.
Hard not to fall madly in love with Gabby and Lily. Two
young girls full of spit and fire who are on a mission -- to
get a new mama. Tired of nannies (who were equally exhausted
by these little girl's antics) Gabby and Lily are delighted
to find Annie Rose wedding gown and all. Sure that this was
a great surprise orchestrated by their wonderful dad they
were not going to go down without a fight.
Determined doesn't begin to describe these twins who write a
how to book to help Annie Rose become their full time mom.
Rather lighthearted fare with one major exception noted.
Annie Rose is fairly certain that she needs to get back on
the road to nowhere before her ex-boyfriend finds her. She's
escaped from his abuse before and she can and will do it
again. But this time there is something preventing her from
running. The Harper ranch and its people are good, fair,
loving people. People who need her as much as she needs
them.
Can you outrun a nightmare or is there a time when you have
to face it down.
HOW TO MARRY A COWBOY tickles your funny bone from the very
start. Carolyn Brown has developed two of the most
precocious children ever -- you know the kind only parents
can love. But Brown makes you absolutely fall in love with
them faults and all. Carolyn Brown has an affinity for wise
cracking characters who are larger than life. Usually it's a
cowboy or cowgirl. This time in Gabby and Lily she gives us
two pint sized versions.
Love is a Carolyn Brown story. HOW TO MARRY A COWBOY is an
instruction manual on how to find love and overcome fears by
the master herself.
SUMMARY
This cowboy's met his match, and he's gonna put a ring on
it. Rancher Mason Harper's two little girls want nothing more
than a mama of their own. So when a pretty woman appears on
his front porch in a tattered wedding dress, he can't help
but wonder if it's fate. Annie Rose Boudreau is in a downright hellish mess. She's
just a few steps ahead of the lowlife ex who's been hot on
her heels, but she's tired of running, and nannying Mason's
two sweet girls may be just what she needs. As her days on
the ranch fly by, and the nights with Mason get hotter,
Annie Rose decides that she's going to stay... for a
lifetime.
