Dr. Charlotte Stone a.k.a. "Charlie" returns to Wallins
Ridge State Prison, where she is a psychiatrist with a
personal history of studying the behaviors of serial
killers. Recently working with the FBI, she was almost
killed in apprehending one of these human monsters. She
has decided that from now on she will stick to research and
leave all the risk taking to the law.
Enter Tony Bartoli, FBI Special Agent, lean, tan, gorgeous,
handsome enough "to make most any woman sit up and take
notice." He and Charlie have been building a relationship
and he is the kind of man she has always been searching for.
However the number one complication in her personal life at
present is with Michael, her ghost/friend/lover.
Tony had a frantic call from one of his team members, Lena
Kaminsky, telling him she and her sister were on vacation
in Las Vegas and her sister, Giselle, left the hotel on
Saturday evening and did not return. She then called
Charlie, because she was certain her sister had fallen prey
to a serial killer. The search begins in the Sin City.
The Las Vegas Police have been working on Giselle's
disappearence and have files on seventeen other females that
have
been reported missing. All attractive brunettes under
thirty-five, and so far, no bodies.
This book has two of my favorite genres, romance and
mystery, intertwined beautifully by author Karen Robards.
It is a heart pounding, glued to the pages until the final
shocking conclusion. It is a story, too of the sexy,
romance between Charlie and her ghost lover. Michael
Garland, 6ft 3, with sky blue eyes, tawny blond hair and a
face and body "that would make any female between the ages
of 12-90 drool", is her ghost/lover and the hot ghost sex
between them adds to their intricate relationship.
Being able to hear voices and see ghosts of those
who suffered a violent death, is another of Charlie's
talents. She met Michael in prison and witnessed his
death. Michael is very funny, my favorite character and
had me laughing at his wit throughout HER LAST WHISPER.
As for the finale: I asee a sequel coming. I will be
first in line for my copy. As always, brilliant writing
Ms. Robards.
Madness and murder invaded Dr. Charlotte Stone’s life when she was just a girl – and made her a woman determined to save others from the horror she survived. An expert in the psychology of serial killers, she’s faced down more than her share of human monsters. But Charlie can also communicate with the spirits of those who die violently, an extrasensory skill that has helped the FBI bring lethal predators to justice. Now, after narrowly escaping death a second time, Charlie’s ready to step away from the edge … before her luck runs out. Too bad Charlie is too dedicated for her own good – and too devoted to federal agent Tony Bartoli to say no when he asks her to ride shotgun on yet another risky mission. Of course, she already has her hands full with Michael Garland: the handsome, roguish ghost with whom she’s hopelessly in love – a spirit who depends on Charlie to keep him from slipping forever into the dark side of the afterlife. But in the mortal world, beautiful women are vanishing from Las Vegas hotels at night. All signs indicate that a psychopath is on the prowl in Sin City, and Bartoli’s FBI colleague Lena Kaminsky has reason to fear that her missing sister may be just the killer’s type. In a town full of fast players and few rules, flushing out a smooth-talking stalker like the Cinderella Killer might be a loser’s game. But for Charlie, the only way to cage her quarry is to plunge back into the homicidal hell she vowed to leave behind – and may not leave alive.
