The saga of Frank Mederos' escape from Cuba to the United
States continues in this dynamic sequel to The Boy
Who Said No: An Escape to Freedom.
When we left him last, Frank, a former Cuban Special Forces
member, had made it safely across the Florida Straits to
America. After being processed in Miami, he flies to New
Jersey to be with his beloved Magda and her family. Frank
gets a job and a room and his new life begins. He also
starts to learn English from a tutor, so he can get a
better job. He and Magda are still very much in love. After
a couple of years, he and Magda marry and have a child. By
this time, Frank owns a couple of sandwich shops and is
doing quite well, living the American dream. When tragedy
strikes, his dreams of life in America with Magna are
shattered.
Meanwhile in Cuba, Lieutenant Pino, who is being held
responsible for Frank's escape, is sentenced to work on a
sugar cane farm. As time progresses, the tables turn for
Pino. He is sent to Russia for more military training, then
reinstated with the Cuban Army. Pino bides his time as he
makes plans to exact revenge on Frank. Will he be able to
pull off his plan using a young Cuban Special Forces
operative on American soil?
STALKED: THE BOY WHO SAID NO is the second installment in
this true-life novel by Patti Sheehy. Ms. Sheehy had
the privilege of interviewing Frank Mederos and has turned
his memories into a compelling and inspiring story. Lazo, a
friend of Frank's in Cuba, helped fill in the missing
pieces of the story of which Frank was unaware from the
late 1960s until the 1980s. Revealing aspects of the Cold
War are incorporated in this adventurous tale, as well as
political dealings between the US and Cuba during that time
period. Frank is even recruited by the CIA to provide
military information about Cuba. To understand and
appreciate the entire story, you really need to read part
one of this amazing saga, The Boy Who Said No: An
