Sophie Porter is a house wife, an educated woman who had a
great job until she started having babies. Now trying to
raise her kids and pay the bills is taking a toll on her.
Sophie's husband is a dedicated and hardworking man who
loves
his job and Sophie loves that about him. She wants a home
for her family, a permanent home and she has found it. But
buying it puts a financial strain on her family that she
never expected and drives her to steal priceless treasures
from her husband's workplace, the Philadelphia Museum of
Art.
Now the FBI is hot on her trail and she must make some even
harder decisions and pray she doesn't lose everything she
loves.
THE OBJECTS OF HER AFFECTION is a story about life,
motherhood and how our decisions and actions affect all
those around us. The character of Sophie comes across as
controlling and spoiled leading her to make stupid decisions
that lead to devastating consequences.
Though Sophie is
not the most loveable person to read about her story is
interesting. Watching her spiral down and seeing how her
behavior impacts not only her life but the lives of her
friends and family is fascinating. As the reader you are
able to see what choices she could have made that might
have stopped the spiral, but you also know that the person
she is could only have made the ones she did. Sonya Cobb
delves deeply into the lives of women, family and
relationships in her novel THE OBJECTS OF HER AFFECTION.
Sophie Porter is the last person in the world you'd expect to be stealing Renaissance masterpieces-and that's exactly why she's so good at it. Slipping objects out of her husband's office at the Philadelphia Museum of Art satisfies something deep inside, during a time in her life when satisfactions are few and far between. Selling the treasures also happens to keep their house out of foreclosure — a house that means everything to Sophie. But the FBI is sniffing around, and Sophie is close to destroying the very life she's working so hard to build. She knows she should give up her thieving ways. But she may no longer be in control. The Objects of Her Affection is a riveting story about the realities of motherhood, the perils of secrecy, and the art of appraising the real treasures in our lives.
