This historical romance, taking place in France 1663 was a
very interesting read. I learned quite a bit of France's
history by reading this most enchanted story, THE
HURLYBURLY'S HUSBAND from author Jean Teule.
A
unique love story of the Marquis (Louis) de Montespan and
his new wife, Athenais and during this era a love match as
theirs is extremely rare. While they are enjoying their
romatic, happy and lustful marriage, someone is working
behind the scenes to ruin this unique love match. Louis
and Athenais find themselves gambling his money away in
gaming hells. What to do, what to do? And now that they
have two small children and losing everything they have, the
King notices Louis's wife's rare beauty and wants her to be
the Queen's lady in waiting. It's a chance for them
to get back on their feet, but will this move destroy all
that they have, their strong love for each other, their
children and family?
Life becomes unbearable for Louis, while King Louis XIV has
humiliated him so badly that many in the streets laugh at
him. He becomes desperate doing strange things to win his
wife back. While his wife plays a lady in waiting for the
Queen, Louis is very much aware that the King wants or is
bedding his wife Athenais. He is devastated and every move
he makes get's him into more trouble with the King. It
becomes way too much for him to handle that he verbally
speaks out against the King and is locked in prison for a
time.
Louis goes on a rough journey to get his wife back,
so many bumps in the roads. THE HURLYBURLY'S HUSBAND is an
edge of your seat read and
makes you wonder throughout, will they ever return
to each others arms? Will one die in a tragic death?
I admire the true facts the author Jean Teule tells about
how bad the hygiene was during those times. It's not a
fantasy, it's truth. THE HURLYBURLY'S HUSBAND is a
recommended read.
The Marquis de Montespan and his new wife, Athénaïs, are a
true love match—a rarity amongst the nobility of
seventeenth-century France.
But love is not enough to maintain their hedonistic
lifestyle, and the couple soon face huge debts. When
Athénaïs is offered the chance to become lady-in-waiting to
the Queen at Versailles, she seizes this opportunity to turn
their fortunes round.
Too late, Montespan discovers that his ravishing wife has
caught the eye of King Louis XIV . . .
