Allison Campbell has two new clients; an aging, Italian
heiress who hasn't left her family home in decades and an
18-year-old pop star in the making who wants nothing more
than to study Opera. They are worlds apart, but when both
women disappear on the same day and both were last seen by
Allison's colleague Vaughn, Allison must use every skill
she's learned as an image consultant to help Vaughn and
find the two women before it is too late.
DEADLY ASSETS by Wendy Tyson is another winner in the
Allison Campbell Mystery series. While the first
book, Killer Image, focused on Allison's interaction with
her client who was accused of murder, DEADLY ASSETS shifts
the focus onto Allison and her crime-solving sidekicks. More
of Vaughn's backstory and desires are revealed, and his
relationship development with his brother Jamie is one of my
favorite aspects of this series. Jamie is a fantastic
character and I can't wait to see how he develops in future
books. Theirs is a complicated relationship, which makes
Vaughn and Jamie so interesting. Allison's romantic
relationship with her ex-husband-turned-current-boyfriend,
Jason, is also kicking into high-gear. I'm rooting for these
two and hope future books will reveal more about their past,
while they work to build a new life together. Tyson does a
fantastic job of building complex characters and putting
them in difficult situations. They all struggle to do what's
right, not only for themselves but for those they love. It's
a perfect balancing act that creates tension, hope, and fear
of disappointment and regrets.
You can absolutely read DEADLY ASSETS as a standalone, but I
highly recommend Killer Image, the first in the Allison
Campbell Mystery series, because the two create a multi-
faceted view of these amazing characters. Killer Image
establishes Allison's skillset and allows the reader to
believe Allison's involvement in the investigation is
necessary. It's not every day you find yourself an image
consultant amateur sleuth! DEADLY ASSETS delves a little
deeper into the character and personal lives of Allison and
those closest to her. It pushes Allison and her team into
new territory and forces them to evaluate their expectations
of themselves and each other.
The mystery behind the disappearance of both women is
twisting and unexpected. New revelations and new clues made
me constantly reevaluate what I thought I knew about the
case. Trying to connect all the dots to figure out what is
really going on behind the carefully crafted lies of a
powerful family will test your own mystery-solving skills!
DEADLY ASSETS by Wendy Tyson delivers again with the clever,
savvy, and charming Allison Campbell. With a cast of
phenomenal characters, dark family secrets, and witty
writing, DEADLY ASSETS is sure to please mystery-lovers.
