in the book is Valeryn, Joelle's first mate. He is loyal and
honorable -- as loyal and honorable as a pirate can be!
Jennifer Bray-Weber has crafted a realistic lovers triangle
composed of first mate Valeryn, Joelle and Ricker. Valeryn
and Joelle were lovers, and he is immediately jealous when
Ricker joins the crew of the Rissa. The steamy love
story is played out throughout the novel as the crew of the
Rissa engages in several battles and adventures in their
quest to find the ship Mariposa.
