MOONKISSED begins in New Orleans of 1981 with a prologue
where vampyren Arden Moran has found her human best friend
Portia dying. Portia had dreams of being turned vampire;
but was instead drained by a group of vicious, newly turned
vampyren. Cut to present day New Orleans, and Arden has
become an assassin for hire, specializing in killing
vampyren as she attempts to avenge the murder of her
friend. She targets Lucius Mercoix, king of the vampyren
race and his followers.
Wolfe Trevlian has come to New Orleans to be a substitute
alpha for his cousin Adam's were pack while he is out
looking for his own mate, who has disappeared. Since Adam
killed the vampyren king's second-in-command while
attempting to help his own vampyren mate escape; Mercoix
wants Wolfe to hunt down and kill Arden as reparation for
Adam's misdeed. Wolfe has set up a meeting with the king's
liaison Taylor, and his four bodyguards. Arden attacks the
group, killing the bodyguards and wounding Wolfe; who
captures and escapes with her when he realizes Arden is his
mate.
As Arden heals, the couple do the mating dance. She wants
none of him, but is attracted to Wolfe both sexually and
for his blood. For his part, Adam is in full mating mode,
even though werewolves and vampyren are deadly enemies. It
helps little that Arden is actually a dhampir, a half-human
daywalker (and more); and tries to escape from him. After
seemingly endless rounds of erotic sex and bickering, the
couple come to an agreement about the mating. After a
bloody battle with Arden's enemies, Wolfe decides to help
her in her quest against the vampyren king. All too soon
their plans fall apart, leaving them both in grave danger.
MOONKISSED is a short, early work of author Aline Hunter.
The story and the wordbuilding are ambitious, but the insta-
mate trope is outdated after being so overused over the
years. The instant lust also severely inhibits the
building of the relationship between the leads to little
more than bouts of seemingly casual hot sex with a lot
of 'mine' chest beating. MOONKISSED dribbles out a little
plotline, then a long steamy scene. Then comes a little
back-story, some more confusing wordbuilding gets dropped
in, and another sex scene. Instead of being an erotic
paranormal, the story vacillates between the paranormal
storyline and being a straight up erotica tale.
MOONKISSED
will surely be an enjoyable read for and appreciated by
current fans of Aline Hunter's work; but is probably not
the best place for a new reader to begin reading her
stories.
Bitter memories have kept Wolfe Trevlian away from New
Orleans, but an alpha’s call for help has him reluctantly
returning to the Big Easy. His tasks sound simple: Keep an
eye on things, and initiate a truce with the pack’s enemies
by killing a local pest.
His target turns out to be the last creature on earth who
should be his mate. His instincts insist otherwise, even
after she fills his hide with silver and warns him to leave
her alone.
Arden Moran looked into the mind of her dying friend and saw
the face of a killer. Vengeance has brought this half human,
half vampire to New Orleans. Nothing will stop her from
nailing her target, including the bossy, sexy werewolf who
stirs both fear and desire within her.
Wolfe’s never been one to back down from a challenge, but
saving, and then claiming, his female is easier said than
done. Particularly with a mate who’s pissed off every
supernatural creature on the planet—and is walking around
with a price on her head.

Warning: Contains a reluctant substitute alpha who didn’t
sign up for complications, a wary half-breed vampire who’d
love to take “no” for an answer—especially since it’s her
“no”—and friends who refuse to interfere, figuring it’s more
fun to sit back and watch the fur fly.
