Prince Corin helps run a fairly happy kingdom, but one that
is growing with superstitious disease. Things only get worse
after the dragons select him to be the one to free them from
the Emperor who enslaves them. Tam, a commoner with Powers
she doesn't even know about, is staying at the Prince's
castle for court. Once they met, they can't deny the
chemistry between them. When war strikes, they have to band
together in more than love to help free to dragons, save the
kingdom, and hopefully still have their lives.
MOTH AND SPARK by Anne Leonard is a brilliant and stunning
adult fantasy full of dragons, royalty, forbidden love,
danger, and writing that will make you want to devour every
page. From the first chapter, the world building is
positively exquisite. The enriched political history and
background of the characters are wonderfully detailed enough
while never taking away from the action. The overall
language and feel to the novel is simply delicious.
Prince Corin and Tam are such strong characters that work so
well together. From Corin's sense of duty to his people to
Tam's strength of mind, they are wonderfully complex and a
joy to read about. I love how the two are constantly holding
each other to the high standard they know they can reach.
They always want to protect each other, but they also know
they both have to face some battles on their own. They
develop beautifully, and the powers they have and learn to
use are so unique and interesting.
MOTH AND SPARK is hands down one of the best books I've read
this year, and it's absolutely an addition to my favorite's
shelf. With a mixture of Eragon, Game of Thrones,
Cinderella, and buckets of original personality, Anne
Leonard has written a fantasy you don't want to miss.
A prince with a quest. A commoner with mysterious powers.
And dragons that demand to be freed—at any cost.
Prince Corin has been chosen to free the dragons from their
bondage to the Empire, but dragons aren’t big on directions.
They have given him some of their power, but none of their
knowledge. No one, not the dragons nor their riders, is even
sure what keeps the dragons in the Empire’s control. Tam,
sensible daughter of a well-respected doctor, had no idea
before she arrived in the capital that she is a Seer, gifted
with visions.
When the two run into each other (quite literally) in the
library, sparks fly and Corin impulsively asks Tam to
dinner. But it’s not all happily ever after. Never mind that
the prince isn’t allowed to marry a commoner: war is coming
to Caithen. Torn between Corin’s quest to free the dragons
and his duty to his country, the lovers must both figure out
how to master their powers in order to save Caithen. With a
little help from a village of secret wizards and a rogue
dragonrider, they just might pull it off.
