Western

THE LONE WARRIOR takes place in the year 1865 in Kansas. Most of the Native American Tribes have lost their cause and were put on reservations. Others still fought on, in separate groups. Many white woman and children had been taken to live among the Cheyenne and other tribes. Along comes a very determined woman, Rose Varner, who will stop at nothing to find her little girl and get her back from the tribe who had kidnapped her. Rose needs a man to help her find her little girl, and he's one man many do not want to come upon. He's dangerous and a killer. He was tortured by the Cheyenne so badly, some call him "The White Ghost". It is said that anyone who sets out to find Luke Phelan will never return from the mountains where he lives as a recluse.

Rose is not afraid of this so called "White Ghost", so she sets out to find him. Rose will not give up. Eventually, Luke sets out to help her get her daughter back from the Cheyenne, and do keep in mind, Luke had been tortured by the Cheyenne, so he has knowledge of how the tribe works.

As Rose and Luke start their journey they both come upon many obstacles and horrific killings of innocent children and women. THE LONE WARRIOR by Lori Austin is an excellent read. It kept me on my toes, and I could not put it down. At the end, Lori Austin gives us very interesting information on the Native Americans, and I'm so happy she put that in the book. THE LONE WARRIOR is a very learned read, with romance and great characters who are both dangerous and good. I recommend THE LONE WARRIOR!

SUMMARY

Rose Varner needs a man… But not just any man. The one known as “White Ghost with Hair of Fire.” He may be the only way to rescue her daughter, Lily, from the Cheyenne. Legend has it he was once the Cheyenne’s captive, but his courage impressed them so much that they accepted him as one of their own. Yet the man Rose finds seems far from legendary… Luke Phelan’s tortured past has driven him to live as a recluse in the Smoky Hills of western Kansas. Having vowed to keep his distance from the Cheyenne, Luke refuses to accompany Rose on her rescue mission. But her bravery in the face of dangerous odds changes his mind. Now as they ride toward their destination, they’ll battle outlaws, bounty hunters, and their own rising desires before finding Lily. But the cost to Rose will be high, and her budding love for Luke will be put to the test…
