Romance

Carly Bell Harwell is a small town girl in Hitching Post, Alabama. She owns the Little Shop of Potions, a magic potion ship specializing in love potions. A local soothsayer has made a prediction....sunny with a chance of divorce. Now her potions are in more demand than ever with married people chasing her down in the streets to get a little magic help to ensure they stay married.

But when Carly finds a dead man in her shop, holding one of her potion bottles, she goes from the most popular person to the least favorite. With not much else going on around the shop, Carly wants to find out why a local lawyer, who she had never had in her store before, show up murdered in her shop. And all she has to do is ask a few questions regarding the murdered lawyer at the cafe in town. Since Hitching Post is such a small town, one could learn all sorts of things.

Since the police are involved, that means Sergeant Dylan Jackson will be working the case. Carly and Dylan have a past. A very turbulent past, that includes two trips to the alter that resulted in no marriage. At their last visit to the alter, Carly had opened herself up with her magic and took off when love wasn't one of the emotions he was feeling. Since he left town, she has been able to lick her wounds in private. Since he came back into town, Carly has done everything to avoid him, but since he has been working on her case, she just can't seem to get rid of him.

When the suspect list gets longer and longer, Carly is more confused than ever. How can a man she barely knows and only saw in passing end up dead in her shop? Carly knows she is close, but just can't seem to get all the facts together and expose the real killer.

I loved A POTION TO DIE FOR. It was also my first Heather Blake book. As the first in a debut series, it was enjoyable and laid down strong ground work for more. The characters were quirky and funny and the story line line has so many twists and turns that I literally was surprised as the who did it came out. I will certainly be looking for more in this series and others by Heather Blake.
