Romance

Sydney Blake's twenty-second birthday cannot get any worse. When she learns that her long-time boyfriend, Hunter and her roommate, Tori have been cheating on her together, Sydney takes her belongings and leaves. Except she has no place to go.

Ridge Lawson is her neighbour, and although they haven't spoken yet, they do share a unique bond. Everyday when Ridge plays his guitar out on his balcony, Sydney cannot help but be magnetized to his tunes. As a music fanatic and aspiring musician herself, she is drawn to him, but until now, she never had to chance to tell him how beautiful his music is.

Ridge is one half of a band, and as the songwriter and music extraordinaire, a lot of the band's pressure sits on his shoulders. He is unable to be inspired by anything lately, but he unexpectedly finds his muse in Sydney. This begins a complicated romance that will have readers pining for a happily-ever-after.

Colleen Hoover infuses MAYBE SOMEDAY with her trademark charm and a good boy hero. Ridge has a secret that is revealed fairly early on in the story, but it will ultimately change the way you see him. I am still not fully sold on this, because it makes believing him as a musician a little more difficult. However, Hoover works on that authenticity for the whole book and achieves a good result.

The book begins with Sydney punching her roommate in the face for her betrayal, and as you can expect, much of this book involves cheating. However, it isn't all physical. I find that the emotional cheating was a little more hard to deal with and prevented me from really investing in Ridge and Sydney's romance. Yet, Hoover wields her magic and somehow makes it work.

Though different from Hoover's usual style, MAYBE SOMEDAY is a refreshing take on the forbidden romance.

SUMMARY

At twenty-two years old, Sydney is enjoying a great life: She's in college, working a steady job, in love with her wonderful boyfriend, Hunter, and rooming with her best friend, Tori. But everything changes when she discovers that Hunter is cheating on her--and she's forced to decide what her next move should be.

Soon, Sydney finds herself captivated by her mysterious and attractive neighbor, Ridge. She can't take her eyes off him or stop listening to the passionate way he plays his guitar every evening out on his balcony. And there's something about Sydney that Ridge can't ignore, either. They soon find themselves needing each other in more ways than one.

A passionate tale of friendship, betrayal, and romance, Maybe Someday will immerse readers in Sydney's tumultuous world from the very first page.

Includes an original soundtrack created by musician Griffin Peterson.
