Anne Dowling is ready for another semester at Wheatley Prep.
She's definitely ready for it to be more normal than her
first semester when her roommate died. But since Anne found
the picture of an old student named Matthew Weaver with
writing on the back that hints at a murder, Anne knows she
can't let herself rest until this new mystery is solved. As
the clues start adding up, Anne will have to realize that
focusing on this death might cost more than her great GPA or
her boyfriend. It might cost her her life.
WICKED LITTLE SECRETS by Kara Taylor is a complete thrill to
read. From the beginning, the mystery with Matthew Weaver's
death is suspenseful and intriguing. The mystery is even
more delicious since Anne's friends' parents might be the
very ones behind the murder. I love how throughout the
novel, Anne knows some things are over her head and that she
can't solve everything. She is a bright character who knows
her limits, even though she constantly pushes them. Her
character develops wonderfully as she tries to solve the
case, and I adore her narration as she goes on her journey.
The romance in WICKED LITTLE SECRETS will keep you on the
edge of your toes, almost as much as the mystery does. Anne
is dating Brent, and while they have a lot of sweet moments,
there seems to be a wall they both can't let down for the
other. Anne doesn't have that problem with Anthony, who I
completely love. The love triangle definitely is not the
focus on the story, nor is it overly angsty, but it does
make a great addition. I do wish that Anne wasn't quite so
wishy-washy between the two, but at the same time, she
doesn't have any undying love for either boy, so her going
back and forth is somewhat natural.
I didn't read the first book in the series, but Kara Taylor
puts plenty of background information in the story to make
it okay to read WICKED LITTLE SECRETS on its own. I really,
super like this book, and I can't wait for the next book in
the series to come out.
In Kara Taylor's Wicked Little Secrets, Anne Dowling becomes
entangled in a web of secrets involving a missing student
and a conspiracy at Wheatley Prep in this fast-paced, juicy
follow-up to Prep School Confidential
Anne Dowling-a fresh, original, and funny new YA heroine
whose knowing, irreverent voice will remind readers of
Pretty Little Liars and Private-is back for her second
semester at Wheatley Prep. Although things have settled
(somewhat) since her roommate Isabella-s death, Anne's still
kind of obsessed with the death of Wheatley student Matthew
Weaver thirty years ago, since she found a picture of him
and his crewmates with the words-they killed him scrawled on
the back among Isabella's things.
When Anne learns that her boyfriend Brent's dad is one of
the now-powerful Wheatley alumni who rowed crew with
Matthew, and that the crew team continues to induct new
members with a creepy-sounding ritual called "The Drop," she
knows further investigation could put her relationship with
Brent in danger. Determined to discover the truth, she
reaches out to Anthony, Isabella's townie brother, who helps
her delve deeper into the secrets in Wheatley's past.
Secrets someone would kill to keep hidden. As the school's
Spring Formal-and its notorious afterparty-approaches, Anne
sees the perfect opportunity to do some off-campus digging
into the lives of Wheatley's VIPs in this thrilling,
unputdownable read-but if she's not careful, she'll be the
next student who never comes back.
