Since he was seventeen, Derek Charles Holbrook, Viscount
Banfield, has known who he was going to marry. After all, he
made his dying father a promise and he has every intention
of keeping it, especially since he's in love with the lady
in question. Having spent the last seven years writing the
American heiress letters and eagerly anticipating the day he
could finally call his wife, Derek is taken aback when the
object of his affection informs him that she doesn't want to
be wed to him or have children.
Clementine Henrietta Grey may have money but it's never
gotten her the only thing she's wanted in life; happiness.
Not wanting to cheat Derek from a life full of laughter and
children, Clementine decides she's better off breaking off
the engagement instead. When Clementine's plan go awry and
she finds herself married to the man, she tries to make the
best of the situation. After just a day of marriage though,
things are already looking bleak, until an unlikely retired
courtesan and her school come to their rescue. Now it's up
to Clementine and Derek to fight for the love they can have.
The always entertaining Delilah Marvelle returns to her
School of Gallantry with NIGHT OF PLEASURE, book four
in the
series. With such emotional polar opposites as Derek and
Clementine, it can be hard to make things work to the point
where you're actually rooting for the characters to be
together, but Marvelle manages to pull it off and gets you
invested in their lives. When the two finally meet Madame de
Maitenon, who runs a scandalous school, the scene is
explosive. As usual, Marvelle doesn't do things in typical
historical fashion, which is what makes her boos such a
delight to read. I don't want to give anything away but lets
just say at the School of Gallantry, they truly do
give you
an exceptional education.
If I have one complaint about the
book, it's just that I felt I didn't get enough of the
school and Madame de Maitenon. Having fallen in love with
her character back when the first book, Mistress of
Pleasure, came out, I was greatly looking forward to more
fun teachings, but I will take whatever Marvelle gives.
NIGHT OF PLEASURE is an tumultuous emotional roller coaster
full of heartache, tears laughter and love. I can't wait for
the next book in the series.
WARNING: This book is Rated Double S (Sweaty & Sinful) and
contains strong language and sexual content which may cause
respectable people to swoon.
An arranged marriage is daunting, but not as daunting as
seducing a spouse whose passions you do not understand...
Derek Charles Holbrook, Viscount Banfield, knew his fate
since he was seventeen when his father announced his union
to the beautiful but mysterious American girl by the name of
Miss Grey. To protect the troubled estate, Derek submits to
his father's wishes, not realizing he's about to entangle
himself in a hell of a lot more than marriage.
Miss Clementine Henrietta Grey may be worth millions, but
not a single coin has ever bought her a smidge of happiness.
When she marries the charasmatic and dashing Viscount
Banfield, whose only strife in life appears to be the uneven
seams in his coat, she finds that siring the heir he wants
requires far more than her heart is prepared to give.
Unable to seduce his overly-serious and reluctant wife,
Derek realizes his dreams of creating a loving family has
turned into a nightmare. But with the unexpected assistance
of a retired courtesan and her outrageous school, Derek and
Clementine discover that passion is a language spoken not
just from the body, but from the mind, heart and soul.
