In the multiverses, everyone has multiple versions of
themselves. These versions are called analogs. Sasha Lawson,
Earth, knows nothing about analogs, but she does know that
she's thrilled when hottie Grant asks her to prom. She
doesn't know that Grant is actually Thomas, Grant's analog
from a different universe that needs Sasha because she is
the analog to their princess. When Thomas takes her back to
his universe, Sasha will have to pretend to be the princess
if she ever wants to go home and has to hope she won't die
along the way.
For me, TANDEM has a slow start. Sasha is very much the
stereotypical teen girl, eager to go to prom and blush-y
around her crush. However, once she gets into Thomas's
universe, the story goes so fast that my fingers had a
hard time keeping up. Also, the need for Sasha to act like a
stereotypical teen girl proves to be a great set up for
character development later on, and it's a clever reflection
on how normal her life was before. Thankfully, that first
part isn't too long.
The concept behind this story might mess with your head a
little bit, as often dimensional/multiverse stories do, but
the explanations throughout the story are impressive and
very helpful. The plot is layered nicely because of that,
and it sets it up well for potential future books.
The relationship between Sasha and Thomas is full of swoons,
heartache, and several frustrating moments. The ending packs
a punch, and I hope that there will be a sequel. In between
Sasha's story, author Anna Jarzab puts in pieces of
the princess's story that Sasha is impersonating. The
glimpses are more for plot set-up, but I love the look into
the princess's situation. I would have liked more of those,
but the main focus of the story is clearly on Sasha.
If you enjoy books by authors like Myra McEntire or shows
like Doctor Who, TANDEM by Anna Jarzab is definitely a good
book to read, and I will be highly anticipating a second!
Fans of Matched, Across the Universe, and The Hunger Games
will love this captivating tale of rebellion and romance
that spans parallel worlds.
Everything repeats.
You. Your best friend. Every person you know.
Many worlds, many lives—infinite possibilities.
Welcome to the multiverse.
Sixteen-year-old Sasha Lawson has only ever known one small,
ordinary life. When she was young, she loved her
grandfather's stories of parallel worlds, inhabited by girls
who looked like her but led totally different lives. Sasha
never believed such worlds were real—until now, when she
finds herself thrust into one against her will.
To prevent imminent war, Sasha must slip into the life of an
alternate version of herself, a princess who has vanished on
the eve of her arranged marriage. If Sasha succeeds in
fooling everyone, she will be returned home; if she fails,
she'll be trapped in another girl's life forever. As time
runs out, Sasha finds herself torn between two worlds, two
lives, and two young men vying for her love—one who knows
her secret, and one who believes she's someone she's not.
