Fantasy Steampunk

SHADOWDANCE is Book four in Kristen Callihan's Darkest London series. I am always surprised when I read a book by this author and this book is no exception. I love the mix of historical and paranormal romance. I think it's important to read the previous books in this series before reading this one, in order to completely understand the world Callihan has created, as well as to get a better understanding of the two main characters. Each book makes me more invested in these characters.

Shifter Jack Talent and GIM Mary Chase are forced to work together on an investigation for the SOS. They are on the hunt for the Bishop of Charing Cross and stop him from littering the city with the bodies of paranormals.

SHADOWDANCE is filled with all kinds of tension -- both sexual and otherwise. In spite of the fact that they constantly snap at each other, Jack and Mary are intensely attracted to each other. I was glad that the author went into more detail about their pasts. They are both full of secrets, and I feel as though those secrets are the biggest obstacle to the two of them finding happiness together. It's great getting the story from both characters' perspectives. They are both such wonderful and complex characters. I love when they revealed themselves to each other bit by bit and realized that they had more in common than they thought. The heat they generate together is fabulous.

The mystery and sense of danger make things exciting and I enjoyed those elements as much as the romance. I could almost see the fog and feel the dampness as Jack and Mary ran around London. There are so many fascinating secondary characters in this story. I can't wait to read the next book to find out what happens with Will Thorne and Holly Evernight. The incident with Adam and the new GIM he created also sparked my interest. I eagerly await the next installment in this series. These books are always so addictive!

SUMMARY

Once a heart is lost in shadow . . .

Life has been anything but kind to Mary Chase. But the Society for the Suppression of Supernaturals has given her purpose. Now she's been tasked with catching a vicious murderer dubbed the Bishop of Charing Cross. But someone is already on the case-and the last thing he relishes is a partner.

Only someone who lives in darkness can find it.

Jack Talent has been alone with his demons for many years. He never expected to have the willful Mary Chase assist him on the Bishop case. Their age-old rivalry reaches new heights-even as their desire for one another reaches a fever pitch. Though he aches to bring her close, Jack's dark secrets are a chasm between them. With dangerous enemies closing in, Jack must find the strength to face the past . . . or risk losing Mary forever.
