Jaye Wells has done it again! The spectacular author
once again has created an imaginative world and remarkable
characters that immediately draws the reader inside DIRTY
MAGIC, the debut novel in the Prospero's War series. The
story is set in the city of Babylon, within an alternate
universe where magic is common-place and can be bought and
sold on the streets from the corner potion-peddler. In this
world, magic is not pixie dust and rainbows and a happily
ever after, but instead can have very serious consequences.
Magic is either black or white, and in the case of the
book DIRTY MAGIC, anything sold on the street is created
"dirty" and therefore highly addictive. The city of Babylon
is an edgy, gritty urban locale in which one particular
community called the Cauldron houses the covens that battle
against one another for power. Ms. Wells has created a
clever association between magic and addiction in both
physical and psychological symptoms that is quite refreshing
in this mix of the paranormal and police-procedural genres.
This novel has all the powerful ingredients to make you
addicted to this new paranormal thriller! It wouldn't be a
Jaye Wells novel without a tough, sarcastic, trash-talking
female lead and DIRTY MAGIC does not disappoint! Kate
Prospero is just the right amount of armor-plated tough
chick, while doing her best to hide the deep-sewn scars
within. Kate is a patrol cop who lands the opportunity to
work for the Magic Enforcement Agency task force assigned to
the case after she is attacked on the streets by someone who
is under the influence of a powerfully new dirty potion.
While trying to crack the case, Kate is struggling to
impress her new co-workers, figure out her brazen, yet
handsome partner, keep all her own "dirty" laundry under
wraps, and protect and raise her bratty teenaged younger
brother. Buckle up! The reader is in for a wild ride with
this novel! DIRTY MAGIC has its consequences and I'm
addicted!
The last thing patrol cop Kate Prospero expected to find on
her nightly rounds was a werewolf covered in the blood of
his latest victim. But then, she also didn't expect that
shooting him would land her in the crosshairs of a Magic
Enforcement Agency task force, who wants to know why she
killed their lead snitch.
The more Prospero learns
about the dangerous new potion the MEA is investigating, the
more she's convinced that earning a spot on their task force
is the career break she's been wanting. But getting the
assignment proves much easier than solving the case.
Especially once the investigation reveals their lead suspect
is the man she walked away from ten years earlier-on the
same day she swore she'd never use dirty magic
again.
Kate Prospero's about to learn the hard way
that crossing a wizard will always get you burned, and that
when it comes to magic, you should never say never.
