Young Adult Paranormal

Abigail Cells is a good person, or so everyone seems to think. It's how she got Tristan to be her guardian angel, even if she doesn't know what he is. What Tristan didn't expect from his new assignment is having Gideon, resident evil angel, as a part of it. Tristan struggles to protect Abigail, though she really needs no help, while Gideon fights to take her down...so long as he doesn't fall for her first.

DOMINION by Melody Manful is a book full of surprises. Before I started the story, I worried that it might turn out to be full of cliché angel stuff with a love triangle complete with a damsel in distress. I usually have that worry right before I read anything with angels, two guys, and a girl. However, DOMINION is far from any stereotype of clichéd story. The hidden surprises and daring originality in this novel take you from the start and pull you head first throughout the rest of the story. My favorite example of this comes in the main character, Abigail. From the first chapter, she is clearly a strong, fierce young woman. Here is a female lead who knows how to defend herself and loves the thrill of being strong and powerful. Her personality is so fun and exciting while also having a surprising depth and relatability that puts her far from the norm damsel in distress type.

Gideon is another character that flies off the page. His wit and sharp humor make me want to laugh and occasionally slap him. His character development and inner turmoil make him an engaging character to discover and fall in love with. There are hints of a love triangle between him, Abigail, and Tristan, but only hints that, while I might wish weren't there at all, are not in your face or overdone. The three of them have battles and relationships that propel the story continuously further into the action-packed plot that leaves you holding your breath at the very end.

Overall, I sincerely love DOMINION. It isn't perfect for me with the still hints of a love triangle and a slightly random attack in the middle of the story, but those did not stop me from loving the characters and wanting to read the next book in the series as soon as possible.

SUMMARY

I Dare You. Look Over Your Shoulders. Do You See Them? They are behind you... They are always behind you. Abigail Cells had a nightmare the day before she met Gideon, the new guy in school who has every girl drooling just to be near him. In her nightmare, she was murdered by a magical creature. As she gets to know Gideon, she begins to remember pieces of her nightmare, and was shocked when Gideon turned out to be the creature from her nightmare. Who is Gideon really? Should Abby allow herself to fall completely for him, or is he the next disaster waiting to happen? ***This is a re- edition, published on December 2013***
