Jonah Miller can revive people from the dead. He is a
reviver. The dead have the chance to send their love or even
tell who killed them. For this reason, Jonah is part of a
forensic investigative team who work with the police in
order to solve murders. Things change when, during a
revival, he notices a terrifying presence. Next, a
journalist is murdered and Jonah gets caught up in the
search for answers. While he works on the case, he uncovers
something bigger than he imagined, and if he doesn't help to
stop it, humanity is in danger.
I love the premise of this story - a man who can revive dead
people to give them a kind of last coup de grace. It all
sounds very Hollywood, so it came as no surprise to hear
that the book has already been optioned to be made into a
movie. It's a unique idea and one that is pulled off with
panache. The author takes this wild idea and presents it as
though it were known to be true. It's this kind of
confidence that puts it in another category, giving it that
extra push to become a better novel. The idea of talking
corpses was enough to hook me.
REVIVER is a debut for author
Seth Patrick and it's a pretty strong first novel. Jonah was
a great character, well written with just enough humanness
to relate to him considering the fantastical element of his
story. Grab this one and read it before you see it hit the
big screen.
HE GIVES JUSTICE TO THE DEAD.
Jonah Miller is a reviver. Part of a forensic investigative
team, he is able to wake the recently dead and let them bear
witness to their own demise. The testimony of the dead is
permitted in courtrooms across the world. Forensic revival
is a routine part of police investigation.
But while reviving the victim of a brutal murder, he
encounters a terrifying presence. Something is watching.
Waiting. His superiors tell him it was only in his mind, a
product of stress. Jonah is not so certain.
Then Daniel Harker, a journalist and revival supporter, is
murdered, and Jonah finds himself getting dragged into the
hunt for answers. Working with Harker's daughter Annabel,
he's determined to find those responsible and bring them to
justice. Soon they uncover long-hidden truths that call into
doubt everything Jonah stands for, and reveal a threat that,
if not stopped in time, will put all of humanity in danger .
