Rain Of The Ghosts

Young Adult

Rain is a 13-year-old girl filled with teen angst and fun-loving spirit. Right before her grandfather dies, he gives her a snake armband, an heirloom that has been passed down in the family for generations. Once Rain puts it on, she starts seeing things, and after her grandfather dies, it only gets worse. She will have to figure out what these ghosts are and what exactly they want from her.

RAIN OF THE GHOSTS is a quick and high action read. The setting around the Bermuda Triangle gives a unique twist to a unique story. Greg Weisman's voice as an author in this story pulls you in from the start and puts you right into the story. The mystery surrounding the plot is done very well, though it can get a little confusing as to where the story is headed. The use of suspense is sort of like the ghosts in the story. It seems almost clear, but then it fades a bit. Even so, the continuous stream of action and changing perspectives in it keep the interest going steady and makes you want to find out what the mystery actually is.

Rain and Charlie, her love interest and best friend, are completely adorable in the young teen first love way. Rain is so independent and fierce, which I love, and Charlie is desperately trying to catch her interest and figure out why he even wants to. They are precious and a funny and sweet side to the story that gives it just the right amount of romance in the middle of all the ghostly suspense.

In the end, I feel this story line has loads of potential for another book, and I hope to see one. I wouldn't list RAIN OF THE GHOSTS as a favorite, just out of personal preference to a few more answers than questions this book left me with, but it is a quick and exciting read. I will definitely been on the lookout for more from this author and more from Rain.

SUMMARY

First in a series about of an adventurous young girl, Rain Cacique, who discovers she has a mystery to solve, a mission to complete and, oh, yes, the ability to see ghosts.

Welcome to the Prospero Keys (or as the locals call them: the Ghost Keys), a beautiful chain of tropical islands on the edge of the Bermuda Triangle. Rain Cacique is water-skiing with her two best friends Charlie and Miranda when Rain sees her father waiting for her at the dock. Sebastian Bohique, her maternal grandfather, has passed away. He was the only person who ever made Rain feel special. The only one who believed she could do something important with her life. The only thing she has left to remember him by is the armband he used to wear: two gold snakes intertwined, clasping each other's tails in their mouths. Only the armband . . . and the gift it brings: Rain can see dead people. Starting with the Dark Man: a ghost determined to reveal the Ghost Keys' hidden world of mystery and mysticism, intrigue and adventure.
