In the first book of the Pleasure Wars Series, Taken
by the
Duke, we get introduced to Lady Portia as Ava's shy and sad
friend. In Pleasuring the Lady, we hear Portia's story.
Due to the circumstances around her mother's illness, Portia
has
come to the realization that she will always be a spinster.
Her main concern is caring for her mother and being a friend
to Ava. When Portia is told the most recent sighting of
Liam, Ava's brother has been at the Donville Masquerade.
Portia feels compelled to help reunite Ava and Liam so that
night, wearing the required mask, she goes to the Donville
Masquerade to try to find Ava's brother. What she finds
instead is a masquerade of erotic pleasures and Miles.
Miles, the Marquis of Weatherfield is being pestered by his
sister to marry, but he is not in any hurry to do so. The
childhood abuse from their father has left scars upon
him and his sister. These memories make it hard for Miles to
accept that
love is a good thing. For him, love has never brought
anything but pain in his life. Momentarily content with his
bachelorhood, he makes a visit to the Donville Masquerade
where he meets a lovely masked lady.
During another visit to the Donville Masquerade, Miles spots
the masked lady a second time. Only this time he is caught
in a compromising position and his masked lady is revealed
to be none other than Lady Portia. He thinks of no other
way around her ruination but to force himself into a
marriage agreement.
I really enjoyed PLEASURING THE LADY, although it is the
second in the
series, this book focuses on the building of Portia and
Mile's relationship. Jess Michael writes exceptional
historical romance filled with strong emotional characters,
passion, and erotic pleasures. I can't wait to read the
next book she comes out with!
