Samantha Wilde worked hard at making the people in her
small town of Midnight, Alabama think that she wasn't
affected much by her parents murder-suicide. So when she
grew up to become a member of law enforcement, many people
were more than a little surprised. Though Sam now knows the
truth behind her parents death, when her boyfriend is
accused of murdering his ex-wife, Sam's begins questioning
his perfectness. Broken-hearted, she returns home to her
sisters in the hopes of putting everything behind her and
working on starting up a detective agency.
Quinn Braddock didn't kill his ex-wife and feels betrayed
by Sam when she doesn't automatically believe in him. Five
months later though, he still can't stop thinking about
her. Staying away becomes even harder when he finds out
she's the one responsible for clearing his name. Showing up
in Midnight, Quinn isn't sure what kind of reception he's
going to get but one look at Sam and he knows he wants her
in his life. Convincing her of it is going to take some
work though, especially when there's another grisly murder
in town with Quinn looking like the likely suspect.
Sam knows she should have believe in Quinn's innocence the
first time he was accused of murder so she'll go to any
length to prove herself to the man she loves, even if it
involves putting herself in the path of a killer hellbent
on destroying Quinn's life.
After reading the first book in the Wildfire series,
Midnight Secrets, author Ella Grace had me hooked. I hadn't
read such an engrossing romantic suspense in a while and I
wanted more. Thankfully, MIDNIGHT LIES, the second book in
the series, is just as enjoyable as it predecessor was.
Given her history, it`s no surprise that Samantha wasn`t
able to right away say with one hundred percent conviction
that Quinn was innocent of killing his ex-wife. Some people
thing Quinn starts off as a jerk but given that his
girlfriend doesn`t believe in his innocence, I figure you
have to cut him some slack.
There's mystery abound in this fast-paced story that'll
keep you turning the pages. I love the little clues Grace
weaves into the story that are given here and there that
may enable you to figure out who the killer is before the
grand reveal. I can`t wait for the third sister, Sabrina,
to get her story. Her story arc has been set up a bit in
MIDNIGHT LIES so it`ll be interesting to see how it pans
out. With the expansion of Wilde Detective Agency to
include Brody and Logan, two former army rangers, I`m
hoping this series will continue even after the last Wilde
sister has found her happily ever after.
IT’S ALWAYS HOTTER AT MIDNIGHT.
The winds of fate have blown cruelly on a family that once
had it all: money, power, prestige. The lives of three
beautiful daughters were forever changed when, on a sultry
night in Midnight, Alabama, a murder-suicide shattered the
Wilde family. The girls grew up to live separate lives but
now have returned home, each to face a danger no one can see
coming.
Former homecoming queen Samantha surprised everyone by going
into law enforcement, but beneath her tough façade lies a
wary heart. The tragedy that struck her family is an ever-
present reminder that nothing is ever as it seems. When the
man she loves, Quinn Braddock, a doctor and Iraq war
veteran, is accused of murder, Samantha assumes the worst.
Brokenhearted, her confidence shattered, she returns to
Midnight. Though exonerated, Quinn still feels the sting of
Samantha’s doubt, but he can’t forget his feelings for her
and follows her. Soon after his arrival, a shocking murder
terrifies the town, and once again, Quinn is under
suspicion. This time, Samantha will not turn her back on the
man she loves—even if it means walking into a killer’s trap.
