Okay here's the scoop on this book. It's not really a fully
fledged book; it's a novella with additional teasers for
other Rose books. I have read several books by Karen Rose
and didn't hesitate for a moment to request this one. But I
have to admit to being disappointed when I realized it was
just a short story of sorts. Of course it was written with
aplomb by a very talented mystery author but still it left
me wanting more. Perhaps that was her goal. It would seem
that "Did You Miss Me" by Rose ended without a glimpse into
the future of the main character Daphne and her son. So
being devoted to her fans Rose wrote BROKEN SILENCE to
fill us all in.
Part of the Baltimore cops series this novella catches up
with Daphne and her friends and tells us a little about
their equine therapy which is going to appear in several
future books.
Karen Rose had a short story to tell and used this forum to
get it out in what will surely be an eBook. It's a great
story to read over a cup of coffee and Danish.
Daphne is doing well, her panic attacks under control and
her life has direction along with a budding relationship.
She is finding that her life and experiences have helped
her find purpose. Naturally drawn toward children who have
been traumatized she and her friend have started using
equine therapy to get through to these children who have
lost their voice. Their silence is palatable and finding a
key to unlock their voice is crucial to their recovery.
Social workers can only do so much and sometimes you need
to be creative to unlock these little minds. Everyone is on
the same page when it comes to this seven year old girl
found in the snow not far from a burned car and its
unfortunate passengers. There is no identification on any
of them. The girl is frightened beyond imagination and the
readers know exactly why. That's what Daphne has to find
out before the unthinkable happens. Before this little girl
is once again in a place where only nightmares reside.
If you are a fan of Karen Rose you will enjoy BROKEN SILENCE
and probably like me just feel dismay over its
brevity. The novella seems to be a new trend with authors
offering a glimpse into their work. Not a bad way to
discover a new author. Watch Your Back will be coming out
in 2014 so if you liked this novella you will be happy to
learn that Daphne and her therapy work will appear once
again in this new book.
