The WINX fairies are back this time with a piece of cursed jewelry and a monster at the school! Can they once again save the day, or will trouble win out this time?

When I was younger, I completely loved the WINX club. With this graphic novel being the first of the WINX I have seen in a few years (on my end; I know the show and graphic novels have been continuing), I was nervous that they would be changed and my childhood would be destroyed. Thankfully, this was not the case at all. This Volume 9 of the WINX Club by VIZ Media LLC is just as wonderful as I remember these fairies being.

What strikes me most about this volume is the friendship between the group of fairies. In both the case of the cursed jewelry and the monster incident, you see Bloom and her friends truly unite to face the obstacles. They are all strong, and while they have distinctive personalities, their overall success comes from putting their strengths together. As evident in this volume, they are a team to be reckoned with. I love their teamwork and in addition, their female power. This is a story where the girls are the heroes, and they kick butt. Sky, a male friend of the WINX, does make a nice appearance, but the focus is on the girls.

Young children probably up until age 10 or 11 would probably get the most enjoyment from this graphic novel, but I would recommend it to any lover of children's pop culture in addition to them. It has a feeling of youth and magic that would appeal to both of those groups. Whether you are a longtime fan of the WINX or you haven't heard of these fairies before, I would suggest giving it a try.
