Lulu can't be part of a team at the Rock and Ribs festival
in Memphis since she owns a barbecue restaurant but she can
attend the festivities. Some of her friends, the Graces,
are participating in the amateur competition.
With her son and daughter-in-law able to handle Aunt Pat's,
Lulu takes her granddaughters to the festival. She even
takes a turn watching the ribs in her friend's booth. When
rain put a damper on the festivities, Lula starts to head
home. Rather than get all wet, her friend offers her the
loan of a tarp. Only the tarp isn't where they expect it to
be and when they do find it, there is a body wrapped up in
it.
Reuben Shaw was a braggart and had managed to annoy everyone
he'd met at the competition. But who had he annoyed enough
to kill him? Lulu and the Graces are on the case since
Cherry had been very open about her feelings for the man.
Lulu and all her friends will discover more about Reuben and
his life than they wanted to know. None of it will make the
victim more likable. Lulu's life will be put in danger as
she gets closer to the answers she needs.
The Memphis BBQ series has been a pleasure to read;
this
book is no exception. Ms. Adams brings Beale Street and
Memphis to life for the reader. Her cast of characters is
fresh, quirky, and endlessly entertaining. Here's hoping
there are more to come from this author.
Even Lulu Taylor—proprietress of Aunt Pat’s Barbeque
Restaurant in the heart of Memphis, Tennessee—needs to get
out of the kitchen now and then. But at the Rock and Ribs
festival, she finds more than a taste of trouble
Reuben Shaw rubs a lot of people the wrong way—including
Lulu’s best friend, Cherry, who has the misfortune of being
in the booth next to his at the festival. The pigheaded pit
master thinks he’s a shoo-in to win the barbeque
competition, but he spends more time stirring up trouble
than seasoning his spare ribs. Hours after she gets into a
quarrel with him, Cherry finds Shaw dead with a butcher
knife in his chest. Now it’s her turn to get grilled—by the
police. Lulu sets out to clear her friend’s name and finds
Shaw had more secrets than his BBQ recipe. She’ll need to
act fast, because the real killer will spare no one including
Lulu.
