When you've lost your parents, your best friend, and your
boyfriend to a car full of drunk drivers, how do you go on
with life? For Kacey, 20-year-old sister to 15-year-old
Livie, her remaining immediate family, she moves them to
Miami. Once there, Kacey tries to throw herself into work to
cover all the costs and tries to throw herself off of Trent,
the gorgeous neighbor who won't leave her and her ghosts
alone. But Kacey knows what it's like to lose someone you
love, and she's not open for adding another to the list. She
just has to stay away from him...if she can.
TEN TINY BREATHS was a beautiful story about a young woman
who struggles to free herself from the anger of her past.
The author captured the post-traumatic stress signs very
well. So many times, I felt heartbroken for Kacey and her
sister. Their neighbor, Trent, develops feelings for Kacey,
and she does everything she can to fight, no matter how
sweet he is. The emotional depth to the story was well
written and made me empathize with all the characters. I
loved how the book was divided into sections based on stages
such as denial, acceptance, dependence, etc. It gave a good
road map to Kacey's journey.
Though I did love the emotions and the main characters, I
did have a few issues with it. I thought the overall idea of
the THE TEN TINY BREATHS, which I will not go into detail
with
because of spoilers, was a little cheesy, especially in
comparison to the rest of the book. When Kacey first meets
Trent, the lust at first sight was a little overboard. I
understand that Trent is supposed to be different from the
numerous attractive men she sees at the gym, but still, I
think it could have been reigned in a little.
If you're a fan of new adult titles with a solid characters
who are far from perfect, but still lovable and relatable, I
would highly recommend TEN TINY BREATHS to you. I enjoyed it
overall,
and it was well worth the read.
Just breathe, Kacey. Ten tiny breaths. Seize them. Feel
them. Love them.
