WINDS OF SALEM picks up right where the last book left off:
Freya is trapped in time, specifically during the Salem
witch trials where she has already died once in her life.
With the memory of who she really is gone, she doesn't know
which girls to stay away from and which ones to show her
gift with herbs.
Back home in present time, Ingrid and
Joanna are frantically looking for ways to bring her back.
Ingrid starts to unintentionally drift from Matt in her
search and when an old flame, none other than the god Thor,
shows up, will she be able to stay faithful to her mortal?
I've read most of Melissa de la Cruz's work, and while I
loved the first two books in this series, this one was a bit
disappointing. It was still good; the action was fast-paced,
and the display of how life was during the Salem witch
trials was wonderful. It painted a great picture to set the
story to. However, it didn't come with the
you'll-never-guess-what-happens-next twists and turns that
the other two books had. It was a bit more toned down, and I
missed the big unveiling on what the overarching battle is.
I liked that Ingrid had her moment when two guys were after
her as Freya is so accustomed. However, I think it took a
while for her to grow in this one. I felt she was going to
develop further and not as slowly. She did make some great
discoveries; they were just drawn out a little. I enjoyed
seeing more of Freya's twin, Freddie, but I was sad with the
note it ended him on with. I can see how it was appropriate,
but I had higher hopes for him. I hope he will come back
later in the series to end more positively.
If you are a reader of this series, I would still tell you
to read WINDS OF SALEM. It certainly won't stop me from
picking up the
next book, because I know great things still await this
series, assuming there will be more of it. WINDS OF SALEM
didn't end on
a cliff-hanger, but I can't see this book being the last.
Modern-day witch Freya Beauchamp is cast back in time to
1692 amongst the Salem Witch Trials by an enemy spell, as
her present-day family attempts to reopen the passages of
time to bring her home.
SOON TO BE A LIFETIME TELEVISION SERIES!
Freya Beauchamp is trapped in 1692, in Salem of all places,
with no recollection of her past. A powerful enemy spell has
sent her spiraling away so that she is separated by
centuries from her mother, Joanna, and sister, Ingrid. This
is not good news for a twenty-first-century witch. Not to
mention the immediate threat she faces from the wealthy and
influential Putnam family. When little Annie Putnam is one
of the first to make accusations of witchcraft, her
landowner father jumps at the opportunity to consolidate his
power and expand his holdings in Puritan Salem Town. If
Freya is caught using magic, she will be forced to relive
the witch trials, and this time, even her immortality is in
question.
Meanwhile, twenty-first-century North Hampton has its own
snares. Joanna and Norm consult the Oracle for advice, and
Freddie and his pixie allies search for a missing totem that
could reopen the passages of time and help bring his sister
home. When Ingrid bumps into an old flame, she finds that
her new love for Detective Matt Noble is in doubt.
Moving between past and present, Winds of Salem's dizzying
plot twists and page-turning suspense is sure to bewitch
fans old and new.
