MIDNIGHT LIES, the newest book about the Wilde sisters and
their detective agency, picks up with Samantha, who lives in
Atlanta. Sam is a police detective; and involved in an
intense sexual relationship with hunky doctor Quinn
Braddock. When Quinn's ex-wife is murdered and he becomes
the prime suspect, lies and misunderstandings drive the
couple apart. By the time Quinn is cleared of the murder and
ready to make things right with Samantha, she has fled back
home to her sisters in Midnight, Alabama.
With the mystery of their parents long-ago murder finally
behind them; Savannah, Samantha, and Sabrina are all busy
trying to get their fledgling Wildefire Detective Agency
off the ground. They get their first client; a woman named
Lauren who is on the run from Cruz, a notorious drug lord.
Savannah is pregnant, so her involvement in the
investigation is currently limited. Due to the danger of
being followed, Lauren is sent to a safe house for hiding,
while Bri infiltrates the drug lord's compound. When a
mysterious man shows up in town out of the blue, Samantha is
immediately suspicious that he has something to do with
Cruz. She goes out with him several times in order to
subtly question him about his possible involvement with the
drug lord.
With all this investigation going on, Quinn shows up in
Midnight, determined to make things right with Samantha.
Even though he has been exonerated of the murder; the stigma
is still there, and following him wherever he goes. He and
Sam reconnect, but try to keep the relationship on a more
superficial level. That plan doesn't last long, but Sam is
distinctly unhappy that Quinn is unable to fully commit to
her. After his own bad marriage, and his parents cold
marriage; he doesn't put much faith in relationships lasting
for the long haul. When a suspiciously similar murder rocks
the small town, the question arises as to who in the world
is going to so much trouble to try to frame Quinn for these
murders.
I found I liked MIDNIGHT LIES just a bit more than the first
book of the series Midnight Secrets. Despite the fact that
the plot stretched logic in a few places, and Quinn was just
a little too perfect to be true; this was quite an enjoyable
read, and quality romantic suspense. Now that a couple of
hunky private investigators have joined the Wildfire
Detective Agency, the series looks to have more potential;
and stretch beyond just books about the three sisters.
MIDNIGHT LIES is a very good read, and can be read as a
standalone. As the author Ella Grace is a pseudonym for
Christy Reece, anyone who enjoys her work will love this.
IT’S ALWAYS HOTTER AT MIDNIGHT.
The winds of fate have blown cruelly on a family that once
had it all: money, power, prestige. The lives of three
beautiful daughters were forever changed when, on a sultry
night in Midnight, Alabama, a murder-suicide shattered the
Wilde family. The girls grew up to live separate lives but
now have returned home, each to face a danger no one can see
coming.
Former homecoming queen Samantha surprised everyone by going
into law enforcement, but beneath her tough façade lies a
wary heart. The tragedy that struck her family is an ever-
present reminder that nothing is ever as it seems. When the
man she loves, Quinn Braddock, a doctor and Iraq war
veteran, is accused of murder, Samantha assumes the worst.
Brokenhearted, her confidence shattered, she returns to
Midnight. Though exonerated, Quinn still feels the sting of
Samantha’s doubt, but he can’t forget his feelings for her
and follows her. Soon after his arrival, a shocking murder
terrifies the town, and once again, Quinn is under
suspicion. This time, Samantha will not turn her back on the
man she loves—even if it means walking into a killer’s trap.
