Mystery

Sarah Dearly and brand new husband Theirry de Bennicoer are in Salem, Massachusetts only days after their Las Vegas wedding. It's not their first choice of vacation destination by any means but when the Ring, (the official vampire council) calls on Theirry in his position as consultant to investigate the recent spate of vampires gone missing, any hopes for a Hawaiian honeymoon must be put aside.

Jonathan Malik, the ghost of a witch hunter is still hanging around giving dire statements, witches are thick on the ground (as you might expect) and something odd seems to be happening at the bed and breakfast where they are staying. None of that seems to be more than a nuisance until Theirry becomes caught in a terrible spell.

Sarah and Theirry's relationship is put to the test as circumstances reveal parts of Theirry's past he would prefer Sarah never see. After six centuries or so of living, there are a lot of skeletons stuffed in that closet.

Michelle Rowen's light paranormal romances are definitely well-written and perfect for any bathtub or beach reading. With her mysteries, though, Rowen has shown additional skill in creating delightfully twisty plotlines enjoyable enough for light summer reading yet complicated enough to keep a reader's interest high and brain engaged. BLED AND BREAKFAST is Book 2 in the Immortality Bites Mystery series, which is a continuation of Rowen's Immortality Bites paranormal romance series, but with more focus on the mystery without neglecting the romance. After reading both series, I definitely prefer this new incarnation of Sarah Dearly and her hunk-a-dour vampire husband. Michelle Rowen also writes the Nightshade, Nightwatchers , and Demon Princess paranormal series.

SUMMARY

Fledgling vampire Sarah Dearly knew what she was getting into when she married master vampire Thierry de Bennicoeur. As an agent of the Ring, Thierry is sent all over the world to solve vampire crimes and keep them secret from humans. And now Sarah’s on the job with him—for better or worse. Right after their wedding in Las Vegas, Sarah and Thierry get their next assignment: Three vampires have gone missing in Salem, Massachusetts, and they need to find out why. Their contact in Salem turns out to be a local lothario with a penchant for witches, but before he can help them, he suddenly goes up in smoke—leaving behind nothing but a stain on the ground and a seemingly impossible mystery. Did a witchy ex-mistress cast a deadly spell, or is there something even more sinister happening to the vampires of Salem? Getting to the truth may require raising the undead, with a little help from the owners of a vampire-friendly bed and breakfast. But uncovering Salem’s darkest secrets may drag some of Thierry’s own past into the light.
