Zoe Foster, creator of the popular comic strip Kitty Floyd,
P.I., comes across the body of a young woman on her way
home from a Christmas party. Running back to the hotel
where the party was held, she calls 911 only to discover
that when the police arrive, there's no body. The police
think that perhaps the woman was another fellow Christmas
partier who'd had a little too much to drink and Zoe just
happened to find her passed out in the alley but Zoe knows
that the woman she saw was dead and will stop at nothing to
find out what happened to her.
Zoe draws a picture of the woman and has it printed in the
newspaper she works at in hopes that one of the readers
will recognize the woman. The information she receives
leads Zoe to the Blue Moon, where the missing women, Lola
Malone, used to be a singer. The nightclub also happens to
be owned by Zoe's ex-husband, Rick Vaughn. In order to
work together though, they have to put aside their
differences and concentrate on finding out what happened to
Lola.
To get some different ideas, Zoe comes up with a plan to
use her comic strip as a soundboard on what may have
happened to the singer. She sets up a scene and then has
readers write in with ideas on what happens next -- but in
doing so, Zoe may have also attracted the attentions of a
killer.
NOW YOU DIE is a wonderful mystery with lots of suspense
and fast paced who done it chapters. This was my first
Christiane Heggan book but will not be my last. The only
thing I found a bit unbelievable was the killer's
identity. He just seems to come straight out of left
field, and I don't say this because I guessed the wrong
identity. But at the same time, I suppose that's what
makes a good mystery. You never get quite what you
expected. A great read for when you manage to get a few
hours to yourself. I will definitely be looking for other
books by Ms. Heggan the next time I'm at the bookstore.
When cartoonist Zoe Foster stumbles across a woman's
lifeless body in an alley beside her New York office, she
does what any good, civic-minded citizen would do: she calls
911. But when the police arrive, there's one small
problem--the woman is gone.
Without proof of foul play, the police dismiss her concerns,
but like Kitty Floyd, P.I., the heroine of her popular comic
strip, Zoe is not easily discouraged. Her curiousity is
piqued even further when she learns that the missing woman,
Lola Malone, was a singer at Blue Moon, a nightclub owned by
Zoe's ex-husband, Rick Vaughn.
Trying to set aside their differences, the two team up in an
effort to find Lola. But the search turns hazardous when Zoe
comes up with a new story line based on the singer's
disappearance, and immediately becomes a killere's target.
All evidence points to one of her fans, an individual who
seems to know her every move, and who will do whatever it
takes to stop Zoe from finding out the truth.
