Romance Suspense

Ali Winters has a nice little life in Lucky Harbor, barely scraping by working in the local flower shop, and in a relationship with the good-looking town clerk Teddy. Unfortunately, things go really bad, really quick. Not only does Teddy dump her, he accuses her of stealing money from his office. Now the whole town is divided over did-she-or-didn't-she steal the money. Ali was a great heroine, probably one of my favorites in the series. She was quirky, kind, lovably adorable, and just an all around sweetheart.

Luke Hanover is a detective from San Francisco, visiting Lucky Harbor for a short vacation after a case gone wrong; and staying in the home he inherited from his grandmother. Luke was strong and loyal, and a lot nicer than he likes to let on. He turns out to be quite the easy touch for his grandfather and the townspeople. He takes a quick liking to Ali, and decides that she didn't steal the money. Soon, he is using his investigating skills to find out who really stole the money, and his free time is spent in romancing Ali.

There is really not a whole lot to the plotline, and no real surprises. The story is cute, fun, and fluffy. The reader knows from the very beginning that Ali will magically get her own flower shop in the end, Luke will solve the case, and that he will be offered a job by Sawyer so that he can stay in Lucky Harbor. It is a testament to Jill Shalvis' considerable talent as one of the best romance authors currently writing that she can take a story that is so very predictable and breathe new life into it. Ali and Luke are two of her better leads in this series; and I really liked them both. The mystery of who actually stole the money is the one thing in the entire story that is not a foregone conclusion; and it was a very interesting subplot. I did quite enjoy the story, however, despite the sheer predictability of the whole thing

SUMMARY

Ali Winters is not having a good day. Her boyfriend left her, everyone in town thinks she's a thief, and now she's about to be kicked out of her home. Her only shot at keeping a roof over her head and clearing her name is to beg for help from a police detective who's as sexy as he is stern.... After a high-profile case goes wrong, Luke Hanover returns to his hometown for some peace and quiet. Instead he finds a bombshell brunette in a heap of trouble. As he helps Ali put her world back together, the pieces of Luke's own life finally seem to fall into place. Is this the start of a sizzling fling? Or are Luke and Ali on the brink of something big in a little town called Lucky Harbor?
