PRETTY IS AS PRETTY DOES by Debby Mayne is the first book in
a new
series. Priscilla Slater receives an invitation to her ten
year high school
reunion. Does she really want to go? It would be great to
show everyone
how much she has changed. A lot has happened since she went
to Piney
Point High School. She is a very successful business woman.
She owns
several beauty salons and does quite well for herself. She
also has
changed her physical appearance as well. Gone is the mousy
brown hair,
crooked teeth, and her cheap clothes. Pricilla decides to
go to the reunion
and even heads down a few weeks early to help with
preparations. Since
she is going to be there, she decides to work in her salon
there and help
some of her classmates get spiffed up for the reunion. Very
quickly she is
caught up in all the gossip and goings on in Piney Point.
Each chapter in PRETTY IS AS PRETTY DOES is told from a
different
person. You will meet Laura, Trudy, And Tim. Laura Moss
was the vice
president of her class and she is in charge of the reunion.
She is married
to Pete, her high school sweetheart who totally doesn't
appreciate all she
does for him, their home and their four children. They have
been a couple
since the fourth grade! Pete has a drinking problem which
doesn't help with
her situation.
Trudy Baynard has gone through a painful divorce with the
captain of the
football team, Michael. She was also Miss Piney Point and
feels like she
has to keep up appearances because of that. When she and
Michael
divorced she sold her house and moved to the big city of
Atlanta. She has
put on some weight and her life isn't as perfect as she
wishes it would be.
Will she be able to pull it off at the reunion? She isn't
even sure if her car
will make the trip and she can't afford to fix it.
Tim Puckett has been a friend to Pricilla for years. He is
a vendor for her
salons and has always had a special spot in his heart for
Pricilla. Does she
share his feeling? He isn't sure but offering to be her date
for her reunion is
one way for him to spend more time with her and see just
what her feelings
are. He even comes down to Piney Point early to help out
with the last
minute details. He is super nice and Pricilla really
appreciates his time and
his friendship but she just isn't sure if she can take it to
the next level with
him.
PRETTY IS AS PRETTY DOES is a quick read that is filled with
quirky
characters and small town charm. I was quickly wrapped up
in their lives
and couldn't wait to see how it all ended. It was
interesting to see how they
each learned not to live in the past and how they each left
their high school
days behind. I found myself laughing at loud at many
different parts of
Debby's book and can not wait to read more by this author.
Debby has
written more than forty novels and I can't wait to get my
hands on them.
Priscilla Slater goes to her ten-year high school reunion
with equal parts dread and eager anticipation. Even though
she’s a successful owner of a chain of hair salons and no
longer has the mousy brown hair, crooked teeth, and
discount-store wardrobe, she still feels like the ugly
duckling. But when she arrives at the reunion, Priscilla
soon realizes that her old classmates aren’t exactly as she
remembers them. With humor and a just a touch of sassiness,
Priscilla finds herself facing her own truth—and she may be
surprised at what she discovers.

The Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man
looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the

Wow. Ten years. As I read my high school reunion
invita– tion a second time, I can't help but smile.
Although I own one of the most successful businesses in my
hometown of Piney Point, Mississippi, I've lost track of
most of the people I gradu– ated with.
Knowing the people I went to high school with, this is
going to be one crazy event—that is, if everyone
attends. I'm not surprised Laura added a pre–party to
the invitation. Her husband has never attended any social
event before pre–partying his face off—even in
high school. Pete Moss graduated with the distinct honor of
high school lush, and as far as I know, he continues to hold
that honor, which is ironic since I don't remember ever
seeing Laura touching a drop of anything stronger than her
mama's two–day old sweet tea.
Poor Laura.
I pin the invitation to the bulletin board beside the
fridge. And for extra measure, I jot the date on my
calendar. In pencil, just in case . . . well, in case
something comes up.
