Vlad and Leila return in the second book of the Night
Prince series by Jeaniene Frost. In TWICE TEMPTED,
things
get soured quickly and the previously happy couple of Vlad
and
Leila are suddenly on the rocks when misunderstanding,
expectations and miscommunication clash.
Leila is one of my favorite heroines. She has a spine of
steel and when placed in difficult situations, she always
knows how to handle herself. However, in this book, she
becomes so shattered by the events that occur that she has
some lapses in judgment. She allows her emotions to get the
best of her and it showcases her vulnerabilities as a
character. I loved seeing this more emotional side to her.
Vlad is as Alpha has ever in this book. He is the ultimate
bad boy and although he remains true to his character in
this book, I also missed some of his usual wit and
possessiveness in this one. Again, emotions play into their
actions and what Vlad and Leila overcome in this book
definitely strengthens their bond for the future, creating
a strong romance to go from here.
Frost pens such eloquent and engaging first-person
narrations. Her authorial voice is ideal for Urban Fantasy
and Romance and in TWICE TEMPTED, she fully exposes her
immense talent. The pacing is absolute perfection. There is
no stalling whatsoever and the action and sweet moments
definitely had me grinning from ear to ear. Once I started
this book, I found it very hard to stop. I read it so
quickly that when it was over, I simply needed more. The
wait for the next book is excruciating.
Dating the Prince of Darkness has its challenges . . .
Leila's psychic abilities have been failing her,and now she
isn't sure what the future holds. If that weren't enough,
her lover Vlad has been acting distant. Though Leila is a
mere mortal, she's also a modern woman who refuses to accept
the cold shoulder treatment forever--especially from the
darkly handsome vampire who still won't admit that he loves her.
Like choosing between eternal love and a loveless eternity . . .
Soon circumstances send Leila back to the carnival circuit,
where tragedy strikes. And when she finds herself in the
crosshairs of a killer who may be closer than she realizes,
Leila must decide who to trust--the fiery vampire who
arouses her passions like no other, or the tortured knight
who longs to be more than a friend? With danger stalking her
every step of the way, all it takes is one wrong move to
damn her for eternity . . .
