Romance

SWORN TO PROTECT by JO DAIVS is a smart, sexy, and fast paced read. SWORN TO PROTECT is a spin off from Ms. Davis's Sugarland TN Firefighters of Station Five and now focusing on the hot Detectives and officers of the Sugarland TN Police department. Detective Shane Ford is a confirmed bachelor who has a string of female companions and very happy with the way his life is. That is until a few months back when he had a brief affair with the beautiful Juvenile officer Daisy Callahan. Shane knows there is something special about Daisy, but like most confirmed bachelors he breaks off the relationship rather then explore where a relationship can go, because he is scared. On his way out of the station one morning with his partner Taylor Kayne, on his way to look at a body, Shane comes face to face with the one female he cannot seem to get off his mind, and like a typical male he messes up by asking if they can be friends and maybe get coffee sometime. This leaves Daisy staring at him like he grew another head and his partner about to fall down laughing. This is how his day starts and only goes down hill from there. Later in the day after looking at a person that was killed execution style, somewhere else; he gets a call from his best friend NFL football star Brad Cooper that leaves him thinking that something is not right with him. Shane tries to shake that off and assures himself everything will be fine when he sees Brad the next day. After getting home and doing nothing more then changing clothes and grabbing a beer. he is surprised when his doorbell rings and its Daisy standing on his front porch. After he lets her in and she tells him what she saw on the news about the death of his best friend Brad Cooper, he comes to rely on her more then he ever thought possible.

After leaving Brad's house with his son Drew and hearing the news that Brad died of a possible drug overdose, Shane is in a fog. Luckily Daisy is there for both him and Drew and gets them back to Shane's house safe and Drew settled into his room. As reality sets in that he will never see his best friend again and now he has a 16yr old son to take care of, he has no idea what to do. As Shane and Drew start to try to move on after Brad's death and figure out how they are going to get along and settle into a family dynamic that is new to both of them, Daisy is always there to help if they need her. Once Drew starts school and makes one friend Ty, Shane is happy for him. But it is short lived when Drew is caught tagging a house with Ty after sneaking out of Tommy & Shea's house and after Shane finds out who Ty's father is. This where all the suspense and excitement start. It is not until Drew is abducted from school that Shane, Daisy, Chris & Taylor along with a white board and stick figures, start to put the pieces together as to who is selling and distributing the drugs and who is responsible for the mystery man's murder.

I really liked SWORN TO PROTECT, it is face paced, sexy, erotic, suspenseful and well written. I like how the dynamics between Shane and Drew change from buddies to mentor and young man. Also that Shane never once tries to take Brad's place as Drew's father, and how Drew starts to come around to trust not only Shane but Daisy as well. The story between Shane and Daisy is rocky at first, then sexy and finally sweet. I am glad that Ms. Davis decided to explore the Sugarland PD detectives and write about them. They have popped up here and there in her firefighter series and I have wondered about them and the stories they have to tell. So thank you Ms. Davis for giving us readers the Sugarland Blue novels with the hunky, sexy detectives ready to spill their stories. I liked this book and so far this series as much as I liked the Firefighters of Station Five. Which means if you liked her Firefighters this series is a must read and yes you see cameo's of the Firefighters from Station Five in the Sugarland Blue series.

SUMMARY

From the author of the Firefighters of Station Five novels... Sugarland loves their men in blue, especially Detective Shane Ford. But Shane’s mission to protect and to serve has just gotten personal.... Detective Shane Ford, Sugarland’s favorite cop, has been blindsided by the sudden death of his best friend, NFL star Brad Cooper, and by becoming the legal guardian of Brad’s son, Drew—a bitter, angry sixteen-year-old with a dangerous secret. Shane is determined to pry the truth from Drew, but he manages only to alienate him—and winds up going head-to-head with Juvenile Officer Daisy Callahan, whose job is to protect the teen’s best interests. Shane has always been drawn to Daisy’s beauty and strength, but he’s determined not to allow their intense attraction to interfere with his duty ever again. It’s a vow that will prove difficult to keep, as the realities of Shane and Daisy’s blossoming love and their growing bond with the grieving teen propel Shane headlong into danger for the new family he has sworn to protect.
