Debra Webb's book RAGE has everything a person could want.
She
has romance, murder, and secrets.
We meet Jess Harris. Jess is the new Deputy Chief in her
home town. Jess did not want to go back, but the job was
just too good to pass up. We also get to meet Dan Burnett
who is not only the chief of police, but her long lost love.
They had a relationship several years ago. Can they get
back to where they left off? There is also an under lying
story of a serial killer who has been after Jess. At
different times, he just sends her text messages to keep her
on her toes.
Jess Harris along with her department has to figure out who
would kill a cop's wife.
A lot of the cop's don't care for Jess, which is just making
her job even harder. No matter what Jess keeps trying to
find the killer.
Debra Webb has several different story lines going on in
this thriller. The way that Debra's writes, is not
confusing at all. Her description of the events put you
right there.
From the very start, Debra gets you into the story.
I found myself second guessing who I thought was the murder.
More than once I was wrong. Which just show how good of a
book that Debra Webb has written. Debra gives you all the
turns that you would want in a murder mystery. She also
gives us some romance.
Debra Webb has what it takes to be right up there with
other murder mystery writers.
There are no boring parts to this book. I didn't find
myself losing interest in this story.
Debra Webb takes her characters from this book into the next
one. This is the kind of stories that I like. I always
want more and that is what you get with Debra Webb.
When Jess Harris moved back to her Alabama hometown, she
thought she'd left her past behind her. But the blood bath
the new Major Crimes deputy chief finds at a murder scene is
beyond even the savagery of Eric Spears, the serial killer
who now haunts Jess's life with terrifying text messages.
Amid eerie echoes of the Charles Manson massacre, Jess
investigates the dismemberment of a cop's wife while her
baby lay sleeping down the hall.
The discovery of two more headless victims makes Jess wonder
if it's a gang-related slaying, a personal vendetta . . . or
something else. And the sudden reappearance of her
ex-husband makes her question her future with Chief of
Police Dan Burnett. Now as the net widens to include a
shocking suspect, Jess realizes that the identity of the
killer may lie with an autistic eight-year-old boy. With
inner-city tensions at an all-time high and the community
calling for blood, Jess must race to save an innocent
child-and prevent a final, horrifying act of rage.
If you like spectacular Romantic Suspense, the Faces of Evil series is for you.
Rage, the recently released fourth book in the series, received 41/2 stars from RT Magazine.
One of the reasons that the series works so well is that Debra Webb has managed to combine an action-packed plot with a character driven plot, not an easy feat.
Jess Harris and Dan Burnett are the main characters in all of the books.
Jess is a kick-ass, independent heroine whose continual determination to do things her own way, even if they are outside Police protocol, drives Dan crazy. He is very protective of her and always has her back, which is not easy since he is the Chief of Police of the Birmingham Police Department.
Given their past history, each book allows them to cautiously come to terms with their feelings for each other in a second chance at love while at the same time that they are dealing with murder and mayhem, including a serial killer.
Another great aspect of the series is that Ms. Webb allows the reader to see the flaws of Jess and Dan as well as those other recurring characters. You feel invested in the characters with respect to their personal and professional lives.
I highly recommend Rage and the other books in the series. I have the Kindle version of these books and anyone fortunate enough to win the entire series to date, will be on happy camper! (Marijane Diodati 6:13pm May 20, 2013)
