Thriller Psychological

Melissa Walker grew up in a small Texas town, the illegitimate daughter of the town prostitute. On her 17th birthday, a covetous psychopath abducted her, keeping her prisoner for 83 days in total darkness. She endured unspeakably atrocious acts as he continually raped and brutally tortured her. Believing he had killed her, the fiend left Melissa's body outside a church. But Melissa survived and now, 15 years later, only two people, her grandmother Lucy and her closest friend, know that she now lives in San Francisco as a homicide detective with the new name Sabrina Vaughn.

Sabrina has worked hard to bury her emotional scars, training to be tough and self-reliant, as she puts her past behind her. But the past will not stay buried. A person from her childhood, Michael O'Shea, has found her. Michael's sister was brutally murdered in the same manner as Melissa/Sabrina. During his investigation, Michael has discovered that young girls with the same features as Sabrina have been kidnapped and killed every year on her birthday. He will do whatever it takes to hunt down this evil killer and make him pay. Michael has pledged to look after Sabrina, but that doesn't mean he isn't going to use her to bait a trap. Seeing Michael brings back all the terrible memories of home and the horrendous attack. How was Michael able to find her? And if he knows she's alive, how long before the monster finds her as well? With even more to lose now than before, Sabrina eventually realizes she must face her past and bring this madness to an end. With Michael by her side, she returns to Texas. What they find there is more shocking than they could have ever imagined.

CARVED IN DARKNESS by Maegan Beaumont is an extraordinary psychological thriller that grabs you on the first page, ratchets up the tension with each new chapter, culminating in an astounding conclusion. Beaumont is an exceptional author who knows how to engage readers in a totally satisfying experience. Characterization and plot development are phenomenal. I can't wait to read more novels by this author.

SUMMARY

Past horrors bleed into a present-day nightmare

Fifteen years ago, 17-year-old Melissa Walker was kidnapped, raped, tortured, and left for dead in a churchyard. Only two people know she survived the 83-day- long horror and began a new life as Sabrina Vaughn.

As a San Francisco homicide inspector, Sabrina can take down assailants twice her size, but her emotional scars run deep. Seeing Michael O’Shea, a childhood acquaintance with a sketchy past, triggers full-blown panic. How does he know she’s alive?

Believing his sister was murdered by the same monster who attacked Sabrina, Michael is dead set on catching him — using Sabrina as bait.

Sabrina’s living nightmare is just about to get worse because somehow, some way, the killer has discovered she’s alive . . . and he’s hungry for her blood.
