Twenty-two year old Sophie Apperly lives with her parents
and brother Michael in London. An academic family, Sophie
is the baby and viewed by all as rather dense and not too
bright. Her passion is to take a course and start her own
business in clothing design. Without a job and money, her
family offers her services for two weeks to care for elderly
"evil" Uncle Eric who is purported to be extremely rich in
the hopes he can be persuaded to leave her family his
fortune. Uncovering in his paperwork a possible investment
that might make them all rich, she offers to locate the
relative needed to follow through on the prospect.
Sophie's friend Milly from New York has found her a job
as nanny, but when she arrives the family no longer needs
her services due to a family emergency. Rescuing an elderly
lady at an art exhibit when she accompanies Milly, brings
unexpected avenues to Sophie. Matilda Winchester,
originally from Cornwall, is rich beyond words and has a
grandson, Lucas, who is an attorney and completely devoted
to his grandmother. Matilda asks a favor of Sophie when she
returns to England. Lucas is sought after by every female
for his good looks and wealth. He doesn't trust Sophie and
when in England strives to work with her in bringing his
grandmother's wish to fruition. A jealous co-worker and a
suspicious mind has Lucas vacillating between the feelings
he denies are developing for Sophie and his protective mode
for his grandmother. It takes little time for Sophie to
fall deeply in love knowing she is completely out of his
league.
This "Cinderella" story is amusing with the bright young
woman who feels beneath her "prince charming". The quick
thinking and willingness to care for everyone, her good
heart often goes unnoticed by her family. A conniving
grandmother, a somewhat unappreciative family and a
suspicious minded hunk keeps you guessing what will happen
next. I totally loved this tale filled with humor but not
without wrenching the heart a bit. This author writes a
really down to earth story that everyone can relate to but
ends with a really good feeling you won't soon forget.
