Set in the small and adventurous town of King's Bluff,
Wyoming, this adult novel features a new schoolteacher,
Chloe, and two horse breeders, Noah and Flynn, who offer to
share her as a girlfriend. There is also the issue of a
stalker so while I'm in two minds about the variety of
romance offered, I can't deny it would be useful to have
these men around if a girl felt threatened.
CHLOE'S DOUBLE DRAW mixes in some open-minded and friendly
local residents, before Chloe is snapped up by Flynn and
Noah who are ex-Australian Special Forces. These seasoned,
macho men swagger in and pretty much tell Chloe she is
theirs. She is flattered and attracted, but doesn't feel
that their suggestion is respectable, especially for a
teacher. However she agrees to go on one date with them
and finds them good company and sexy. When they drop her
home, the short time of absence has been enough for a break-
in and personalised vandalism of her house. Shocked, Chloe
talks to the police and accepts the offer of a bed for the
night at the King ranch. The ex-soldiers' protective
instincts are raised and the locals assure her she will be
safe with the men.
So far, so fine, and even romantic. However the
relationship then becomes an experiment in dominance and
bondage - for Chloe that is, as the men have clearly been
doing this for some time and amassed quite a collection of
equipment. They tell her she doesn't have to do anything
she doesn't want to, but when it comes to accepting nipple
clamps, butt plugs and spanking, besides calling your
lovers Sir, I can't believe a modern woman would let
herself be treated this way. Reference is made early on
to the French novel 'The Story of O' but in contrast to
that tale of organised degradation of a young woman, the
men continually strive to give Chloe pleasure and
reassurance.
Noah and Flynn each have different backgrounds and their
own demons, a good counterpoint to the secret Chloe is
hiding - of her stepbrother and the death of her
stepfather. I kept reading, keen to see how far the threat
would progress and how the stalker would get his come-
uppance. Minute details added to the fine quality of Fiona
Archer's writing, such as the gouges made by the edge of a
tube of lipstick which was used to scrawl on a wall. The
supportive women of the town helped Chloe to feel that she
was not alone and law enforcement took the threat seriously
from the outset, which might not have happened in a city
with more strain on resources.
CHLOE'S DOUBLE DRAW might be a good choice for anyone
thinking of dabbling in the world of bondage, or who just
likes reading about handsome, masterful men. For those
drawn to experiment I suggest that Chloe could have
insisted that anything the men did to her she could next do
to them, turn about being fair play. This would sort out
whether the 'dominants' were into exciting sex, or were
actually bullies. Fiona Archer has set a series in King's
Bluff so we have more chances to visit the town and get to
know the folks - sounds like fun!
Chloe Morgan fled to King's Bluff, Wyoming, to start a new
life. With a past that haunts her, the shy schoolteacher
must make a choice. She can hide away and protect her
secrets or embrace the acceptance of the small community.
Noah King and Flynn Taylor have traveled the world as
members of Australia's elite SAS. They've earned scars,
both inside and out. Now powerful influencers in King's
Bluff, a town founded by Noah's ancestors, the men have
made a haven from the ranch Noah inherited. One look at
Chloe convinces Noah and Flynn she's worth pursuing.
Introducing her to BDSM and the menage lifestyle accepted
by the town will be a hard sell. She's scared, skittish,
and refusing their advances. As the two Doms fight to gain
her trust, Chloe's past crashes in on them, threatening
their futures. When a man obsessed with her tracks down his
prey, nobody could have imagined how high the stakes would
go
